Lip-Talk 11 : Silkygirl Moisture Rich Lipstick in 01 Naked

I hardly post any makeup review this month (errrr, how about none?) so i decided to close the month with one!

One of the biggest collection that i have in my makeup stash is definitely lippies (lipstick, lipbalm, lipgloss, lipstain, you name it-i have it T.T) so don't be alarmed if i review lipsticks after lipstick, okay!

For today i'm going to review this super affordable lipstick from SilkyGirl ^^!

SilkyGirl Moisture Rich Lipstick

This brand is, obviously (to Indonesian haha), easily accessible in drugstores and cosmetic stores in Indonesia. SilkyGirl itself is a well-known, mass market Malaysian cosmetic and i personally quite love this brand-their products are very nice and cheap! I just hope they'd improve on the packaging, they actually have some really cute ones like the lollipop lipgloss (i love those!!!) or the Pop Soda Lip Jelly (i've reviewed one of them here), well technically the lip jelly itself is cute but the packaging's quite meh as well.

Anyhoo, somehow in their Indonesian website, i can't find this lipstick! Hm, that's so weird because i remember still seeing them in Guardian not too long ago, have they stopped distributing this variant in Indonesia? Because it's still in the Malaysian website. Now that i think about it, they kept on having this variant on promotion lately, was that a way to finish out the stock quickly? I dunno. But anyway, SilkyGirl Moisture Rich Lipstick actually has quite a lot of shades :

My shade is 01, Naked

Their words :

A moisturizing lipcolor that provides full coverage with a lustrous finish. Enriched with Vitamins A & E to ensure lips stay soft and supple all day long. Contains Aloe Vera Extracts to prevent dry lips and soothe chapped lips.

I didn't purchase this lipstick myself, Matahari Department Store's SPG actually gave me one for free after purchasing two of their perfumes (i quite love their perfumes too!), that explains the strange color choice because i would definitely go for red, pink, or purple otherwise!

Like i mentioned earlier, the packaging is oh-soooo-boring, just a silver bullet with no ornament whatsoever except for the SilkyGirl print. It's sealed with a clear plastic with all kinds of information about the lipstick on it. I hate that kind of stuffs -___-. Once you ripped the plastic off, there goes all of your information *LOL*.

Such a plain Jane, for someone who buys lipstick by their appearance, i might never consider to try this out myself if i wasn't given this!

There's the indication of the shade's color at the bottom of the lipstick, i'm guessing that every shade would have a different sticker color similar to the actual lipstick color? (Heh, i actually have another one that i haven't even opened, i should check it out *LOL*) With this kind of packaging, there's no way to know which shade your holding (if you have more than one) without peeking to the bottom. That can be quite frustrating

I don't know about you, but i actually thought that Naked should be a name for... well... Nude colors? Something similar to natural lip colors? So i was quite surprised that it's actually quite a strong color instead.

Let's see how it looks on my lips :

Bare lips with clear lipbalm

On my lips, the color turned to be slightly corally-quite nice actually! Much nicer than what i initally thought it would be based on the way it looks on the lipstick. It's not as dark and brownish as the tube color-but it doesn't mean that it's not pigmented! It's actually very pigmented, even when i'm wearing oily lipbalm (like the picture above, sorry-my lips were so dry i have to use my stronger lipbalm to make it better) which usually means i would have to apply my lipstick very very liberally for the color to pop, not in this case. A couple of light sweeps' more than enough for the vivid color to appear.

I don't remember to snap a pic of my close up lips wearing this lipstick without any lipbalm underneath but here's how it looks :

Although i wouldn't pick this color for myself, i find it suit my pale skin nicely and brighten up my face without looking too much

Moisture Rich Lipstick doesn't have any annoying scent that disturbs me, it has a good staying power for me (most lipstick does, though so keep that in mind!). When i used it with lipbalm, i kinda felt "It's called Moisture Rich!!! Why is it so drying???" because i felt it drained my lipbalm and left my lips chapped and flaky >.< so not a good look! This actually turns me off this lipstick and i didn't pick it up again for the longest time.

One day, my lips felt healthy enough and i braved trying it again without any lipbalm underneath, strangely some lipsticks can perform better on its own without the help of lipbalm (i have a similar experience with this Etude House Lipstick)-provided your lips is in a moderately good condition (coz if it's severely dry and chapped then i'm sure it'd still not be any good!) and sure enough, this lipstick is in that category!

It glides pretty easily on its own and actually feels quite creamy instead of draggy, very pigmented and it didn't dry out my lips at all! I wouldn't actually call it moisturizing, but it's definitely not drying at all (how strange is that). It has a creamy finishing as well, not shiny but definitely not matte either. I love it on its own!

In comparison with their words? It sure does have a full coverage as it is very pigmented, and it's good enough to not dry out my lips but definitely not soothing or any good for preventing dry lips haha. Oh yeah, the price is around IDR 30.000 (but i VERY OFTEN find it on buy 1 get 1 promotions especially in Guardian so may i suggest you buy only during promotions to avoid any heartache hahaha).

I would recommend this lipstick (i think you can still find this variant in their counters, cosmetic stores and drugstores but if you can't-lots of local website still have stocks on them, like this one) for you who are looking for creamy, pigmented and long lasting lipstick with affordable price tag that is easily accessible if you're in South East Asia.

Wouldn't recommend this for... I dunno, those who has chronic dry lips? Coz i find it not performing well with lip balm but cannot be used on flaky lips on its own as well!

I obviously will not be buying the same shade again, but i wouldn't mind buying them in other colors especially on promotion! (Edit : I actually already did >.<. It was only IDR 17.000 in Guardian and i found a shade of bright pink that i really like lately!)

MUC : Blooming Spring with Beauty Korea

Hiiii!

It's been awhile since the last time i joined a Make Up Challenge, i usually have a specific reason on why i would join an MUC (why? I'm just too lazy to be bothered to most of the time >.<), usually because i really like the theme. However this MUC hosted by my fellow blogger, Winda, actually has a theme that i would normally run a hundred miles from *LOL*. The challenge is to recreate a K-Pop (*gasp!!!* *faints*) make up. I finally decided to join this challenge (aside from the fact that i really am not a K-Pop fan) because i was personally invited by Winda and also because i think it's about time that i at least challenge myself to do something outside my comfort zone! I was really stressed out because my knowledge to K-Pop's limited to those who frequently guests in Running Man *LOL* and because the time frame's a bit short (i mean since i know about the MUC to the closing date) so i decided to find the simplest, easiest look i could find (not that i nailed it anyway, LOL!). I Googled for "K-Pop Makeup" and after staring at seemingly endless pictures of K-Pop girls and getting dizzy, i found this picture :

I had absolutely no idea who this girl is, so as i knew Katherine is into Korean thingy, i sent her this picture and she told me that it's Hyuna from 4Minutes. Now, i thought the look was easy enough to apply, very peachy cheeks and lips, soft and natural eye make up, glowy face (i also think that this look is so spring-y, therefore matches perfectly with the theme "Blooming Spring"!)... NOT. LOL. I was having a hard time making the GLOW shows in pictures, and even though my blush on was already really thick in real life, it's looks very soft and pale in the pictures *cries*.

Now, i already know myself that i didn't nail the look *LOL*, increased furthermore by the fact that our features are so different (different face shape, different eyes, nose and lips shape, basically different everything hahahaha) *LOL*, but i did my best :p.

End result :p, don't be too harsh on me!

It's so hard to bring out glows in pale skin, especially when you don't even have the appropriate tools (i prefer matte makeups in my everyday life)

Anyway, please do not expect me to copy Hyuna's pose as well, i don't pose well *LOL*, i'd simply look crazy if i try too hard :p. Even though i don't think the look i re-create looks anything like the inspiration pic, i personally still thinks the result's nice enough *shameless* LOL. Softer and more calm than my normal makeup (i love bold eyeliner and gyaru eye makeup with white pearlescent liner in the inner part of my eyes to make my eyes appear as round as possible).

I decided to record the step by step of creating (or rather, recreating) this look, just in case there's any of you who just began to wear makeup and want a simple (and super easy) tutorial for a natural, peachy, spring appropriate look?

Prep : cleanse your face thoroughly, put on toner+moisturizer+sunscreen (but honestly i only used toner :p) and get ready for your base. I am completely bare faced in this picture, i think my dark circle's much better ever since we had that Eye Revitalizing Peeling in Miracle Clinic!

Step one is base, in the picture above i was holding my weapons (but i have yet to apply them) : Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to prep my lips and The Skin Food Lemon Foundation (which i'm desperate to finish haha). I have only a few base make ups that i am currently using and i chose this Lemon Foundation because it's one of the least mattifying base i have, as you can see from the "inspiration" picture, the goal is very glowy, flawless skin!

Conceal any imperfection. In my case it's my dark under eye areas and a few old hormonal spot scars on my chin. I'm using my usual Clinique All About Eyes Concealer (01) and DHC Medicated Acne Care Concealer.

After concealer. I always feel more human as soon as i keep my dark circles under control *LOL*

Step three is using cream peach colored blush on and cream highlighter (i am actually still struggling to learn how to use cream highlighters. If i apply it over my powder it'll be cakey and disgusting, but if i apply it before powder then the glow will be muted! Not applying powder at all is NOT an option, my make up would melt within 30 minutes max since my skin's super oily! Anyone has any suggestion?). I applied the highlighter as crazily as i dare (i am not used to glowy makeups :p) on my brow bone, nose bridge, cheek bones, chin, even the inner side of my cheeks (coz the "inspiration" has very glowy cheeks!). I am using Collection Blush & Highlight Cream Duo in Peaches and Cream.

Sadly, the highlighter hardly showed in my pale skin *LOL*. It's a lot glowier in real life but super hard to catch on camera! GRRRR

Hmph, you can only see the highlighter on my nose, can't you? LOL

Step four is skip-able for people with dry skin, but it's totally impossible to skip for me-that is to set the base and cream make up with powder. I used my current favorite pressed powder, Essence Mattifying Compact Powder, avoiding the highlighted area. I set the highlighted area with Esprique Precious Double Shine Face Powder, this powder is very shimmery so it didn't completely killed the glow, but i did mute it a bit.

Step five and six would be explained together because... I forgot to take pictures of the fifth step :p. Step five is to do your eyebrows. In my case, my eyebrows are really thick already (and i really am incapable of doing anything to them anyway, i cannot for the life of me draw or reshape my eyebrows!) so all i did was color them with Face Shop Color My Eye Brow (02 Light Brown) to match my hair.

Step six is eye make up. The inspiration picture sports a very light eye make up, almost bare. I couldn't detect if the girl was using eyeliner on her eyelids (i think she did, very lightly) but i cannot live without my eyeliners *dramatic* so i added a little twist on my own to suit my own face better *LOL*. I applied e.l.f eye primer followed with nude colored (slightly shimmery) eye shadow from an old Revlon eye shadow duo. Then i lined my eyes lighter than i normally did (not easy for me, okay *LOL*, i love my eye liner thick and dramatic!!!) using Mai Doll Liquid Eyeliner in Brown (this is my first brown eyeliner, i used to fear i won't like brown eyeliners since i love my black eyeliners so much but it's not bad, dark enough to still be in my comfort zone but not super dark so it's softened up my make up-in a good way).

After eye primer+light eye shadow+eyeliner. Seventh step is mascara! Hyuna's eyelashes looked very natural but luscious, i probably should've worn a falsies but... I didn't have time hahaha

I wore Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara

Lots of people are crazy over this mascara, it's a pretty nice mascara but sadly isn't my cup of tea. I will review it sometime in the future :p. I also lined my waterline lightly (the inspiration pic also wore a very light liner on her waterline) using a brown eye shadow.

Eye makeup done!

Step eight is to set the cream blush on using a peachy powder blush on. I am using my old and well loved Etude blush on hahaha. IRL i looked super peachy already, but why in the pictures i looked a bit pale still *hiks*. I couldn't load any more blush on since i was actually going out afterward, i don't want to look like a crazy lady!

Final step is to apply light peachy lip color! Hyuna's lip color's very soft and juicy, that's why i prepped my lips with Vaseline earlier. I find Vaseline super greasy texture's good to dilute lip colors if you don't want a super pigmented lip color.

Final look after lip color. I used Collection Lock & Hold Lipgloss in Break Dance

And that's it! Super simple and easy. It might not seem like it in the pictures, but my face was actually super glowy and dewy looking, it's definitely not something i am used to! I had to blot my face a lot since my skin became super greasy super fast *LOL*, but i actually kinda like the whole result.

My first ever attempt to copy Korean make up style *LOL*, i'm so sorry it didn't look anything like the inspiration pictures, but i tried! I actually have another (very different) style i'd love to try to recreate, but since the deadline's so close already.... I don't think i'm gonna make it :(.

Coral Invasion

It's almost summer! (Right? I live in a tropical country where it's summer all year long, so i'm not so sure! But i gathered as much from the various overseas blogs i'm following! LOL)

With my new found love to keep up with seasons, this means i need to keep my darker, plummy lipsticks and bring out brighter, loud colors! (No, you don't understand. It's not like i want to, it's literally not a a choice for beauty/fashion junkies! It's pretty much a physical need to do so! LOL).

Bringing forth : the neon-ish coral!

For the longest time, i paid more attention to my eye make ups and wear very light colored lip glosses (or even no lippies whatsoever) all the time, i guess it was not cool for younger girls to wear lipsticks (which are for older women, mums and all *LOL*), even the word "lipstick" made me wince. And all that changed in an instant, pretty much when i turned 30. LOL. Maybe even though i don't feel like i'm getting old (and i like to think i also do not look old!), my preference when it comes to beauty products shifts with age. Nowadays, i hardly ever go out without some bold colors on my lips. I simply love how bright (or dark-actually), bold lip colors contrasts with my pale complexion so much that it literally "lit up" my face immediately.

As much as it pains me, i gotta admit my interests in neon-colored lip colors were sparked by all the hype surrounding the Korean drama "My Love From the Stars" actress who wore various neon colored lippies in the series. Now, i actually didn't watch the series, not even one episode (nor i ever want to. I mean, aliens? Ergh. No, thank you), all i know about this series is the snippets shown in Running Man's My Love From the Stars' episode *LOL*. But like i said before, as much as i hate K-Pop and Korean dramas (the only Korean girl i like-except maybe for Song Hye Kyo-is Song Ji Hyo, obviously because of Running Man. But even her drama i cannot watch until the end. I managed to watch Emergency Couple for, 3 episodes i guess? Then i lost interests and haven't continued watching ever since), some of their beauty/fashion choices are quite attractive to me. Mainly this neon lips trend, which emerged in a perfect timing to welcome Spring/Summer 2014.

Like the eye brow mascara, i had the sudden urge to wear a bold, neon-ish colored lippies (and in orange-ish color family! Another strange thing because i used to hate orange) so i rummaged through my stash of old lipsticks and found this Clinique's bright coral lipsticks that used to lie around un-loved (only used a few times as very light lip tint), given from one of my sis-in-laws. It is now my most used lipstick for the last month *LOL*.

Now, i know that in that series, the lead actress wore only the bright lippie and almost no eye make up, but me with my gyaru roots.. It's just impossible for me. Plus i don't love the way my eyes looks without eye liners, too sleepy and slitty! So, here's my way of wearing the neon coral lippies :

I paired it with a dramatic looking eyeliners instead *LOL*. Do you know i have a double, tiny moles on the left top of my lips? You can only see one in this picture because i accidentally ripped one off (and this is the second time already!) *LOL*. I hate my moles, but i think i actually don't mind one. Double moles look so disgusting... Sadly it's growing back in an alarming speed *cries* so i guess i will have to go for a mole remover anyway. It's really painful and the recovery's pretty long so i've been postponing it indefinitely :(...

My current favorite lip color. And yes, i am aware that i need to get rid of those 'stache.

And matching nails. The Face Shop RD 301

This outfit consists of all clothing you've seen before in older blog posts. Lace top which i've worn countless times, loose tank with 3D flowers i've worn here and the baroque printed skirt you've seen here. This is the ultimate lesson in mix and matching your outfits, ladies!

We all know that baroque prints are more autumn/winter than spring/summer, the black and gold color emphasize that fact and the thick and heavy fabric also didn't help. But the short cutting makes it appropriate for spring/summer as well with the right kind of pairings :D. You don't need to keep you wintry (or in my case, wintry looking) outfits the rest of the year, you just need to mix and match them with more season appropriate style to make them work.

Lace Top : Forever 21, 3D Flower Appliqued Tank : Random FO in TP, Baroque Printed Skirt : Online, Heels : Everbest, Grey Bag : Prada (no, it's not a real thing, and no it's not cheap either *LOL*. But no, i didn't buy it :p)

And yes, i wore the same lipsticks in all of the looks (which shade i cannot even tell you since i had a weird habit of scrawling numbers at the label of my lipsticks once to keep track of the number of lippies i had. LOL. Told ya i'm weird. I no longer do that though) because even though i have a pretty large collection of lippies, all of the older ones are in very similar, very light, pinky shades that i used to favor. I didn't have a large collection of bright colors lipsticks (but it's slowly changes, obviously. Have you not read my haul posts?) and i'm pretty sure this is the only neon coral lipstick i have in my collection *LOL*. I don't really feel the need to have two of a very similar looking color though, so i think i'm gonna stick with this one and hunt for more orange-er toned lipstick for a change.

I also been wearing neon pink lipsticks a lot (but it's not as brightening as this coral ones so i actually prefer this one!) and will blog about it as well.
