Review : Dear Me Beauty X KFC Primer Sunstick & Hydrating Primer Sheet Mask

If you're a beauty lover in Indonesia i'm sure you've heard all the commotion when this very special collaboration came out last month, after all not everyday a fried chicken (a world famous one, as well!) collabed with a local beauty brand! I was also very excited for Dear Me Beauty X KFC healthy skin combo launching and ofc, being part of #DearMeSquad gave me the perk of being one of the very firsts to try them, before they even launched :).
Honestly, Dear Me Beauty is definitely dast becoming one of the most exciting local brands with their cool and unexpected collabs! Last June they made wave with the eyeshadow palette collab with legendary candy brand YUPI (you can read the review here) and now they even step up their game by collabing with KFC!
Honestly, whenever a beauty brand collabs with unexpected brands, i sometimes feel a bit skeptical as the products often become quite gimmicky, they either just repackage their old products or doesn't pay too much attention to the actual quality of the product as they focus more on the hype and virality. But after trying the products myself for a while, i actually fell in love with both! So i decided to dedicate a blog post for them, to share my thoughts on them, why i like them and also to commemorate this epic collab while it lasts.

It is a hybrid of sunscreen and primer, which is super cool for me as i love nothing more than multi purposes products as they always make my life easier haha.
I've personally been intrigued by sunstick for a while now but always hesitate to give it a try (i am not good with new things :)) this control freak prefers to stick to old and trusted types i know i like, not a very good trait for a reviewer ha!) as i imagine the stick might be hard (like a deodorant stick hahaha) and it would not blend very easy. Well, i don't know about other sunstick, but Dear Me Beauty X KFC Primer Sunstick is the total opposite of what i feared! The stick glides super easily, smoothly and application is super easy! It instantly makes my skin smooth, velvety and minimize the appearance of pores. This sunstick can be used on both face and body.
I am sensitive to a lot of ingredients in sunscreens so a lot of sunscreens in the market makes my skin itch, fortunately my skin seem to like this sunstick as i don't experience anything unpleasant while using it. It also really works well as makeup primer, making my makeup applies easier, smoother and the result more flawless and long lasting.
There are 2 things i'd like to point out when using this sunstick (well, any sunstick, actually) that is :
1. Always double/triple cleanse when using thiis sunstick (even if you don't wear makeup on top of it) because sunscreen itself has a potential to block your pores (because it is their job to block UV rays from our skin) and this one is a primer as well. Primers, when used regularly and not cleansed properly, can cause skin to break out as they also work to fill in and smooth your pores, so sunstick x primer, that can cause even more problem if you're not careful when doing your cleansing!
2. Be sure to clean the stick after each use, as the stick makes direct contact to your skin everytime, there is always a chance for bacteria from your skin to transfer to the stick and grow they - ready to wreak havoc on your skin hahaha. One of the reasons i'm a little bit worried about sunsticks (those who says it's more hygienic... I don't have anything to say to you hahaha), but if you make sure to clean it everytime, then it should not be a problem.
Another thing i want to point out is the amount of "does it smell like fried chicken" question i got when i post the launch on my IG ; the answer if OFC NOT. I'm sure they are not crazy LOL,. The stick has no fragrance, just a very subtle skincare scent (it doesn't even have the typical, strong sunscreen smell) and the sheet mask has a normal sheet mask scent.
I really like the sunstick, enough to make me stick it into my travel bag as it makes my skincare routine faster and i love nothing more than short beauty routine during my travels as i get to sleep more! There were also comments about the product pilling, well as i have very oily skin and this sunstick already has moisturizing, skin care benefits (which has moisturizes my skin more than enough - but i cannot say this will work for every oily skin ya, it just the way it works on MY skin), i actually only use it before my makeup so i have not experience any pilling yet. Pilling happens usually because the ingredients in the sunscreen is not compatible with your moisturizer so if you do experience pilling while using the sunscreen, you might want to try switching your moisturizer into a lighter ones (maybe a gel type?).
The sunscreen is only IDR 139,000 btw (it's currently on promo as well), i expected it to cost more as collab products typically costs more than their original prices so if you're looking for a comfortable, easy to use sunscreen that can double as a primer (that really works), i highly recommend you to check it out. And if you're a collector of cute/collab/unusual products, i think it's totally worth adding to your collection.

This is the first time i am trying out a Hydrating Primer Sheet Mask, as usually the sheet masks i tried are to be used before bed (although Koreans also tend to use sheet masks before their makeup, which for my skin type and climate proven to be way too much and my skin would scream in white heads LOL) and usually very moisturizing, some to a point where i feel the need to rinse as they make my skin very sticky and uncomfortable due to the richness. Fortunately this Hydrating Primer Sheet Mask has just the right balance so i feel comfortable applying makeup afterwards (although i did rinse a little bit just to make sure my skin would not be overwhelmed). The amount of essence in a sheet mask is very important for me as i hate the overly thick and overflowing ones, the texture of the essence in this sheet mask is not too thick but also not too watery (no dripping! I like!) and the amount is just right, which i highly appreciate.
Made from Bio Cellulose, the sheet mask feels soft to the skin without being too think that i fear it might break, i feel that it has the right kind of sturdiness while maintaining comfortability when comes into contact with the skin.
The Hydrating Primer Sheet mask is very hydrating and feels cooling (in the perfect way, not too cooling that it's on the verge of being uncomfortable like some sheet masks i tried in the past). It is deeply hydrating so if you have oily skin like me, you might find it a litttle bit sticky on the skin - all you need to do is give yor skin a little rinse. Just tap a bit of water on your skin and dry, don't wash your face entirely - trust me, it'd help make your skin feels more comfortable and not greasy anymore without compromising the effect as a primer.
I was again, a bit skeptical if a sheet mask can give the benefits of a makeup primer - and again, i was pleasantly surprised because it really worked! After using this mask (and rinsing it off a little bit), my makeup applies smoothly and the result is stunningly flawless! My makeup also stays perfect much longer even during hot and super humid days!
Although it's called Primer Sheet Mask, you don't actually have to use it only when you're about to put on makeup. You can always use it at night before bed for its skincare benefits too. I personally would probably say save it for days when you are about to go on an event/party as it makes skin and makeup looks super lovely but then again it's so affordable (normal price IDRT 19,900, currently on promo too!) so i would say just use it anytime haha, won't break your bank anyway especially if you stock up while it's on promo!
Normally not a fan of sheet masks (i find them messy and most of the time makes me feel sticky) but i really enjoy this one and the result it gives even from the very first use (obviously for claims like brightening and skin barrier strengthening etc you would need to use it regularly a few times first to see the result).
Overall i am super happy with the performance of Dear Me Beauty X KFC products, they are a far cry from just a gimmicky product as they really perform outstandingly.
Btw, they recently released a 3rd product from this collab, Skin Water Barrier X KFC! I will just review it on my IG tho as i don't think i'll have as much things to say about that one haha. FYI, i think they have quite a bit of variants of products in this collab and will be released little by little. I am desperately hoping that there'll be some makeup in there somewhere!
