One Brand Tutorial 05 : Daiso
8:35:00 PM
Hey guys!
First beauty related post that actually isn't sponsored in ages, give me a pat in the back and tell me you're proud of me, will ya?
I have been planning to do this post for the longest time and i even scouted for the items at many occasion and yes, it takes me way longer than i should but at least i didn't scrap the whole idea altogether okay :P.
My loyal readers know my love for Daiso, although it is not faltering and i am leaning towards Miniso more (just because Daiso is so uninventive, they stock the same item over and over again for many many years now, changes comes so slightly and far in between - especially the makeup in most of the countries that i frequented) but Daiso will always be my first love.
Although Daiso Indonesia stocks no makeup (not worth the hassle of registering them to BPOM and stuffs i guess *LOL*) and i don't normally shop at Daiso Indonesia anyway (it's expensive leh! More than twice the price i can get in Japan or South Korea. I don't mind Malaysia coz it's not too bad but i draw the line at Singapore Daiso! Anything more expensive than Daiso Singapore when converted, i would skip. The prices in Thai Daiso are outrageous!), i always had the idea of doing this whole One Brand Look/Tutorial thingy.
I got most of them items at Daiso Malaysia with a few addition from Daiso Singapore and South Korea for the whole look. I mainly want to test of doing a whole face using Daiso makeup can be any good as they are so cheap (they don't *-*) and i tried my best to minimize cheating *LOL*, i can safely say i used 90% Daiso products with a little emergency help here and there. This post also serve as a guide for you who are interested to buy some makeup from Daiso as i have firm opinions on which type of products you can get and use, and which that you should run far far away from (as they suck. BIG TIME).
Are you ready to get full face of makeup using Daiso Makeup? |
Now, my knowledge of Daiso makeup is pretty extensive *LOL*, i know that while in Daiso Japan, Malaysia and Singapore they tend to stock the same brand (probably especially made for Daiso) and products - you can find far more diverse makeup (or beauty products in general) in Daiso South Korea (here they are more like a little drugstore corner as they also carry more mainstream brands like Vaseline and they also have special editions makeups that can only be found at Daiso South Korea) and Thailand (the craziest, most overwhelming makeup collection that i never seen in any other country's Daiso. I didn't buy a lot in Thailand because Daiso Thai is quite expensive in my opinion and i can actually find cheaper Thai local brands!).
So my recommendation? For the basic stuffs you can grab them at Japan (if you happen to be there. Daiso is from Japan and it's the cheapest there. Ofc i know a lot of their products are made in China) or Malaysia but i would totally recommend you check out South Korea's Daiso as they are huge and have a lot more variety - probably the most satisfying Daiso i've ever been to so far are the ones in South Korea (in terms of beauty section ya). Thai Daiso is worth checking out too but i would probably prefer to shop at special makeup stores for their own local products instead.
Now back to the One Brand Tutorial, ofc we start with basics :
Daiso BB Cream (i don't think they have foundations), concealer and Compact Powder (also don't think they have any loose powders) |
Daiso BB Face Cream in Beige, verdict : NO *LOL*. It's one of the worst items in this whole post okay |
It doesn't look THAT bad from afar especially if your skin is pretty alright for me |
You know i am normally very very easy to please, even the most mediocre product would get an okay for me, as long as it's wearable and don't make me look worse than when i wear no makeup it's still not a black list in my book so for me to say that something is really bad... You know it's probably very bad :)))). I just really don't see the point of this product, maybe if you just want a little something on your face that do more than just moisturize? But then i would suggest you to get other products, like Acnes UV Tint is so much better, cost not much more and actually has sunscreen!
If i use this BB Face Cream like i normally use my base, it does absolutely nothing but making my skin look patchy so i tried to pack on and you can see from the close up pic that it does nothing to conceal my old, fading acne scars on my chin but it makes my nose super cakey. It's also very oily (i guess because it is essentially a face cream with a tiny TIIINY tint) and breaks down super fast, it's just a complete and utter failure for me. I would strongly suggest to stay away from Daiso base makeup, if you have very little budget go to the drugstore and get a local brand, you can get much better at less (Purbasari foundation, for instant. I think it's even cheaper than this BB Face Cream yet performs 10x better!).
I don't know if Daiso has any other concealer than the one that i get, but if you see this one just... don't pick it up. Please don't *LOL*. I never had a makeup product that i hate so much i just want to chuck it to the bin. I had dried out eyeliner in the past (NYX, i'm watching you) and stuffs but i think those are duds and it was just bad luck getting them, but this Daiso Concealer i think it's just a bad product *LOL*. If you had better experience with this concealer, or you use other Daiso concealer and it works better, please share on the comment section below.
As for me? I will stay far FAR away from Daiso base makeup from now on, it's just not worth it. Super cheap as they are, they are just horrible *LOL*. The concealer is so bad i would be much better off without any.
Btw, i am not trying to trash Daiso makeup okay, there are some that are really good too and i will get to that, it's just that the base makeup is something i never ventured to before and i was shocked at how bad they are >.<. Worst makeup i ever tried? Yes T.T.
Would i recommend it? Well, no. You can find better powder locally/drugstore brands that are not that much more expensive than this but performs better. Having said that, it's not the worst powder in the world and i can still use it with some adjustments, and if you like the packaging (it's really good. I think they have an entire line of this type of Anna Sui-inspired packaging) then it's a small price to pay if you want to collect/use it as decoration. So it's okay to get, not exactly recommended.
Moving on to eyes, things are getting better trust me haha.
For eyebrow products, i didn't pay too much attention to them because they're now more of a necessity for me, not something i particularly care about so i don't know if they have other variants (i just Googled, they do) but personally i think this particular Olive one is pretty nice and worth getting if you come across it. One of the rare products that i am going to continue using from this whole post.
I previously used Daiso eyeshadows and loving them so i had high hopes for this one - only to be crushed so rudely *LOL*. SO for eyeshadow i would say it's a hit or miss, some might be nice but the other can suck. If you are interested to see which Daiso eyeshadow i recommend, you can check my old giveaway post where i gave out a set of Daiso makeup (and after revisiting that post, i now realize that Daiso does have eyeliner and mascara hahahaa, sorry lah i really didn't remember), the eyeshadow palette that i gave out is the one that i really like. It's all shimmer eyeshadow and they are so blinding they can even be used as highlighters. As i prefer Japanese/Korean makeup look that use a lot of shimmer and very simple, i love that eyeshadow palette a lot because they are so wearable and the quality is very good, but remember if you prefer more "done", Western style makeup then you might not be happy with the palette since there is no matte shadow to be found.
Eyeshadow palette is one thing that Daiso have quite a bit of choices from (not much, but there are quite a few), so far i tried two - one's super good one super meh, so 50-50. You can definitely try your luck with their eyeshadows, like this one it's still usable even though the quality kinda of sucked haha.
I actually think Daiso lashes are not bad, they are wearable and not uncomfortable. I personally would go for the multiple pairs too for economical reasons. But to be completely honest with you, i would prefer to buy local falsies because for the same or less price, the quality is better. Still, Daiso lashes is acceptable and not a bad buy in case of emergency or if you just want to try it.
Now onto the best parts :
Perfectly flushed cheeks with just one light tap on the brush |
If there is one makeup item that i would recommend from Daiso that would be the blush, they have a LOT of varieties of blushes and from that i experienced/heard/read, practically all of them are pretty awesome! And for Daiso pricetag, a good quality blush means a wonderful deal. I would definitely say go for it if you ever want to try Daiso blushes!
This particular type is quite juicy (definitely not a matte lipstick), non drying, pigmented and overall good |
I just Googled and there seems to be a LOT of different Daiso based lipstick available, i never even seem most of them (the ones in Daiso Japan, Malaysia and Singapore are a repeat of maybe 4 to 5 lines max). Like i mentioned earlier, Daiso Thai has a crazy makeup section and they have wall to wall dedicated to only different lipsticks so if you want to try out lots of different Daiso lipsticks, go check their Daiso next time you're in Thailand. So far i have no complain and would probably want to try out more Daiso lipsticks that caught my eyes in the future.
Overall i feel quite meh with this whole experience *LOL*, i sadly found more items that i dislike that then ones that i like . Based on this, i would definitely not recommend you to try to build your makeup around only Daiso products. While their decorative makeup are mostly pretty good (i definitely love their blush on and lipstick, some of their eyeshadows are pretty good and their eyebrow products are decent too) and i wouldn't mind getting more of them, the base are such a fail that i shudder at the thought of putting them on again, especially together! Believe me this is the first time i have the urge to chuck a makeup product into the trash bin as soon as i try it (that concealer, ugh!).
Moral of the story? Spend more on a good base, or do more research (coz local brands have good products that are very affordable too) to find cheap base makeup that are actually decent - but you can getaway having fun with colorful decorative products from Daiso.
I hope this help you the next time you find yourself in Daiso overseas and overwhelmed on which products to try!
I combined Daiso makeup with my normal makeup for this look, that's why it looks more coherent and norm haha |
