Hello hello!
Today i want to share with you a rather unusual (for this blog at least haha) but super fun review of a circus! It's called The Great 50 Show and it is currently on going in Surabaya and we were one of the super lucky ones to be able to catch the premiere last Wednesday :D!
It was a family affair at The Great 50 Show as i came with my little family and so did Angel ^^! (PS : some of the pictures in this blog post is from Angel's camera/phone, thank you Angel! Don't forget to drop by Angel's blog too if you want more review on this show! |
Special thank you to Womanblitz for the invitation ^^.
Do you remember the last time you watch an actual circus, in an actual huge tent? My memory is hazy, but i remember that i've always loves watching all kinds of performances - in the past decade or so i did watch more performances in theatres, auditorium, or even in cruises, but i remember how my parents brought me to watch an actual circus back when i was a child, i remember how exhilarating, breath taking and magical those days were. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Oriental Circus Indonesia is back with The Great 50 Show to bring you a circus experience that is different and the best in Indonesia, but with the same nostalgic feeling we have of our childhood.
Time has definitely passed since my childhood and i am not a lot more aware and concerned about a lot of things, one of those i animal rights. This is why i no longer support animal circuses as i know how bad they are treated, so i am super glad to tell you that The Great 50 is 100% animal free - the only animal you'd see in this circus is a fake one with humans inside of them haha.
In The Great 50 Show, you'll be presented with acrobatic acts, clowns, trapeze, juggling and unicycle combined with music, dance , sound effects even drones, laser and video mapping - this is why this concept is fresher and more interesting. Something that probably never presented before. From 13th of March, The Great 50 Show is on going in North Parking Lot Lenmarc Mall, the combination of traditional and modern circus is also scheduled to be performing in other cities in Java and Bali for a year! How exciting!
A circus is of course, very exciting and fit for the whole family. If you have children, you might want to come early as they have this waiting room that's actually pretty fun for younger children.

View that greets you as soon as you enter the huge tent |
There is a little playground for your little ones, sofas for you to relax and a backdrop to take photos at |
What is a circus without traditional fair snacks? Eat and Eat is available here, you can easily get some cotton candies, hot dogs, burgers or more "proper" meals like fried rice here with pretty reasonable prices. No need to worry about going hungry! |
This way to enter the actual tribune area |
Even if you don't have young children with you, come early anyway to snap some pictures and commemorate this experience :D
One with Lilies of WomanBlitz and Angel ^^ |
And one with the family. As my Little O is a tween (he is actually only 11 but it might be hard to believe coz he is almost as tall as me already >.<) it was pretty hard to drag him to take pictures already haha |
A performer in stilts will also come out to greet you and you can snap pics with her |
There's even face painting booth! |
And a balloon artist to entertain your little ones. They will definitely be spoiled silly here! |
It was raining super heavily at the premier and it was super humid, so when they finally let us is... It was awesome!

The stage |
Opening speech where they told us about the history and origin of Oriental Circus Indonesia that began in 1967 (they are the first circus group in Indonesia and the only one who has been around for so long!). I honestly have no idea of their existence before and i am super proud to know that we actually have an original circus group and it has stood the test of time! |
And so the show begins, the show is actually inspired by the true story of the founder of the Oriental Circus - The Great 50 Show takes us on a journey through the rich 50 year history of the Oriental Circus and the making of our modern Indonesia |
FYI, documentating the performace is strictly prohibited, we were part of the media so we were allowed to take some photos and Instastories - but for the rest of you please respect the rules and just enjoy the show! |
One of the breath-taking acts |
We were completely captivated |
The show is about 2 hours long with a 20 minutes break between first and second act so you can catch a breath, go to the bathroom and or buy some more snacks! |
FYI, we were glued to our seats and 2 hours flew by in a blink of an eye. It seriously felt like 20 minutes instead of 2 hours that i was quite shocked when the show ended haha |
Let me be completely honest with you, i have watched countless performances in my lifetime, locally and in many many other countries before so i actually have no expectations or anything for this show - but boy was i underestimating them because they gave out an exceptional performances with world class act - and i am NOT exaggerating! Don't be afraid to have a high expectations on them, because they delivered!
The death defying acts kept the audience gasping and screaming, that shows you how dedicated and awesome the performances were. I won't go into details into the act because... Well, i have no idea what to tell you except that they were super good and you need to go watch it yourself to understand what i am talking about!
After the show ended, you can even take pictures with the performers and ehm, there's a group of young men that are all very good looking, as fine as their acts so we took the time to queue up and snap some pics with them hahaha!
Also took a pic with the "ring leader" (he's actually a singer haha) |
Are you interested yet? You should be! I mean... You know i don't rave about anything unless i truly believe in them, and i do! So here's the schedules to help you decide when to book your seats :
There are all kinds of seats ranging from IDR 100k to IDR 375k (you can even get discounts with BCA credit cards) you can purchase the tickets at their website - also available at the ticketing booth at the actual site and Traveloka. You can also follow their IG @thegreat50show !
Thank you so much The Great 50 Show for having us, we truly had a blast and i am super happy to recommend this show for everybody, bring your friends, your family, your entire village because they all will enjoy it! Even we would love to come back and watch it again!
