My Halloween 2020 Looks

10:06:00 PM

Hi hi!!!

Yes, i'm blogging again, what a miracle hahaha. You will definitely see me being a lot more active on this blog this months because i have a lot of sponsored posts that i would have to post no matter what :)).

But this post, as you can see from the title, is not one of them. This is a diary like post that i haven't done in more than a year to commemorate a breakthrough and personal growth. You see, i've always LOVED dressing up and the idea of thematic looks (although i will never dabble in face art, this is not because i lack of confidence or too lazy to try, because i HAVE tried to doodle a bit in the past and they were all so BAD, worse than most kindergarteners attempts on drawings. I just couldn't draw guys, even a simple flower will look so bad in my hand, can't do even do it on a flat piece of paper, let alone on my freaking face. I also try to play with eyeshadows and eyeliners to do an effect on my face and failed miserably so, i know face art is not my strength and i do not want to do a half-assed one for the world to laugh at and for me to die of embarrassment over) but i used to think that i'm simply not creative/artsy enough, plus i used to only wear makeup to go out (i feel like i'm wasting makeup otherwise hahaha) so the idea stayed as that. Idea. I also lovced to hoard weird, quirky props and accessories without any purpose other than i like how they look and how if one day i want to do a thematic look i can use them. That day never came.

Until Covid, that is. I was pretty depressed like most people who are used to super fast paced, full of event life at the beginning, but someone who gives up on life - that is not me. No matter what, i get up and i find things to do. Things to make me feel more alive, positive things that brings good things to me and other people. And with His grace, i did it again. During the pandemic, me and like-minded friends founded a new community that is blossoming and growing much faster than we could ever imagine (getting featured in the national newspaper half a dozen time by now, and we're just about half a year old! We also have been working with so many brand i lost count).

BFC opens so many doors of opportunities and possibilities for me, i personally had been venturing into more thematic looks before BFC (i started a series of makeup look for every shade of the rainbow) but only after we're official and made our makeup collab stands on another level compared to other makeup collabs with outstanding results, standards and themes, i truly broke out of my comfort zone.

Thanks to April (one of the co-founder of BFC with a crazy makeup art talent), she pushes us to our limits and come up with so many ideas, this October i ended up with 8 thematic looks that are Halloween worthy. Not all of them are BFC collab, but i'm super happy with all the looks so i decided they totally deserve a place in this online diary of mine.
In previous years, i would be happy with 1/2 half assed thematic looks for Halloween (and i tend to repeat the same look. You know... Vampires, Fairies, and... back to Vampired *LOL*) so to have 8 dramatic thematic look this year? It's definitely an accomplisment

1. Masquerade
April came up with 11 themes for BFC collab in October (we usually have 1 or 2 in a month but October will always be special because it's Halloween month okay) and this is the first one. I wasn't sure about this theme but i have this beautiful masquerade mask that i bought as a souvenir in Venice that has been sitting on a display collecting dust for years so i decided that it should have more purpose and use it for this look.

The actual look is super simple, just a lot of gold glitter, gold eyeshadow all over my eyes and cheeks + sexy deep red lips but when i see the result, it's just too simple (as my first plan to actually wear the mask didn't work as the eye holes are too small to show the eye makeup at all) so i decided in the last minutes to add the gold leaf sequins (that i purchased for another theme actually) to mimic a masquerade mask in half of my eyes. After i'm done, i realized i should've added more leaves to make it less one dimentional and the line to be less straight and thin but honestly i was already exhausted *LOL* and i think it ended up being well, at least decent :p although it's probably my least fave look of out of the 8. I personally think i would not look out of place in a real masquarade ball tho!

2. Draculaura
As a kid, i was obsessed with dolls. I had hundreds of Barbies - but if Monster High was available when i was little, i KNOW i would go crazy over them. I still want them now as a full grown adults *LOL*. You know i'm into all kinds of mythical creatures, ghouls and monsters so a combination of dolls and spooky but pretty things? Obviously imma love them!

Anyway, i have collab group to push myself to come up with different thematic looks and we decided to do a Monster High Collab. The one character that i really like due to her aesthetic and color palette was Rochelle Goyle, i mean... She has pastel colored hair, bat ears, and wings! But i have no plan to buy wigs (i'm not sure i would be able to put it on because i'm hopeless when it comes to doing my hair, what would i know about putting on a wig???) and realistically speaking i know i look a lot more like Draculaura (if i still sport a full front fringe i would look even more like her haha) as my hair is dark now, i have hot pink hair clips and her fashions style is very easy to recreate for me so this is the result. It's a very simple look but i love how fun it turned out and i feel like recreating other Monster High characters next!

3. Vampire Bride
Another BFC collab, the theme was Horror Movie - i wasn't about to join this theme at first but then i remember i just bought a veil and a tiara (for another look but i thought if i can get more use out of them that'd be awesome!) so i decided to do some googling and realized that vampire brides would be a fun look, i mean.. i know i do a LOT of vampire looks, but this one is at least not your regular vampire no? LOL.

I also bought a fake blood necklace (can hardly see it in this one, but you can see it clearly in other pics i posted on IG) especially for this look and it ended up being so much drama because the first seller never sent the package (they said they did but i never received it and they also seemed to be so flippant about it. It was COD so i wasn't too pissed because i didn't pay yet) so i ended up placing another order at another seller, and i accidentally clicked 2 (this happened for the 3rd or 4th time already zzz) -___- what would i do with 2 fake blood necklace, tell me. They are also made of silicone and arrived crumpled and totally curly *LOL*, i had to improvised to fix them, thankfully it worked but really - so much drama for a simple, fake blood necklace that costs a few cents *__*.

Alas, i LOVE the result and i feel like it's super dramatic and theatrical, i think it's one of my fave looks!

4. Witch
Another typical Halloween look (this is also a BFC collab, i joined 5 theme out of the 11) but when i see the inspo pics, i think i decided to join because i have the witch hat headband and i wanted to use th pumpkin lamp Big Boy has haha. I also decided to do a very modern day, millenial witch with smokey eyes, super dark lips (it's actually dark blue and not black) complete with the lip piercing (which is fake ofc haha, don't think i will get another piercing in this lifetime). The makeup is also simple and sort of wearable (if you are into goth aesthetic? Or you can just do the eye look and switch to a more mainstream lip color) but i like how the whole thing including the props and background come together.

5. Pastel Mermaid
I got a fake nail sponsor and decided to request for this pastel mermaid inspired nail set, i loved the kawaii result so much i was inspired to create a whole look by it. For me when i want to be extra and more artsy, i use a lot of applique and sequins now, it's therapeutic and the effect is pretty dramatic too. I went for a sad Mermaid look (Little Mermaid is always sad too, especially in the original story okay) that she cried her tears of pearls and diamonds - it's simple but speaks a volume and i love the result of this too. I'm also happy that i got to use various blue eyeshadows and glitters that usually left untouched haha.

6. CandyLand.
Another theme of BFC Collab that i joined because i have a prop that i wanted to use haha. It's the giant fake lollipop, i bought it sometime ago on a whim because it was on sale and i simply wanted it *LOL*. So glad that i get to actually use it for prop a lot now. I also bought the colorful plastic buttons (that lots of people thought were real candies hahaha) because we had plans of the CandyLand look in the theme list already. The pinwheel hair clip was an impulsive buy i saw randomly at Shopee and thought the color scheme would be perfect for this theme too - the lollipop earrings, unicorn necklace and colorful butterfly clips were already in my collection and proven to be a useful prop. I also purposefully painted my nails colorful candy colors and finally broke my OCD barrier and used two different shades on myt eyes - LOVE the result and it's also one of my fave other than the Vampire Bride. Doing this look and seeing the result simply made me happy and that's the most important point.

7. Mantis.
This one is another theme from my collab group : Avenger Heroes. I am not drawn to heroes so i wasn't too enthusiastic about the theme, the only character i could think of to recreate was Mantis because i like her a lot, i think she's super cute and i love cuteness haha. It's a very simple look too and i rely a lot on editing because i don't have the antennae, the costume nor the black circle lens - but i was excited about the result because this is another level up for me - to be able to edit my photos to this level is definitely another accomplishment because you know i really didn't know how to edit at the beginning of the year!

I also discovered that my eye shape is super easy to manipulate to resemble anime character/alien/any creature with bit round eyes *LOL*. So many of my followers asked for a tutorial for a kawaii, round eye look and i think imma make a quick tutorial video of it for my IG.

8. Demon
The last look to close the Halloween parade, i joined this last BFC Halloween collab because i have the devil's horn headband (bought it in Singapore 3 years ago to wear to Universal Studios Singapore's Halloween Horror Nights) and wanted to get another use out of it. I wasn't very happy about the makeup result but after editing the backgound, the fiery hell fire and the completely black eyes, i love the end result! I think i look like a cross between an evil gumiho (fox spirit) and a seductive demon *LOL*.

And that concludes all 8 looks i came up with this Halloween month, next year hopefully normal life will resume (at least half resumed) and i might not be able to create as much looks as i did this year (i'm praying that i would be too busy with real life again haha) but i will also use this post as a reminder that there is no limit to creativity and how i can accomplish so many things that i never thought i could (except drawing face art, this is a lost cause i'm telling you so please stop asking me to do one hahaha) - and how much fun i had creating them. From planning to executing and editing, and how proud i am when the end result exceeded my expectation. This would force me to create time and opportunities to do more in the future, when i feel like i can't.

What is your fave out of this 8? Do share with me in the comment box below, i would love to know!
