How to : Fairy Kei Style

Heellowww, everybody!

A while ago (and i mean a WHILE, as in pretty long ago wkwkwk, probably more than a month ago :P) i got a special request from my sweet bloggie friend, Nessya, to do a fairy kei tutorial. Nessya thought that i seem to dress in fairy kei all the time anyway so i should find doing a tutorial for the look easy peasy, right? WRONG! LOL.

I do adore fairy kei style a lot and i gravitate towards their style for my own, everyday look (because i am a unicorn and i puke rainbow, remember?), but it's hard to find the right occasion to go all out fairy kei in Indonesia, okay! And i don't dress up or put on make up if i don't go out so it makes it doubly as challenging, but i do love some challenges in life! That's what makes it so interesting, right? So i was totally determined to create a full (but simple) fairy kei look and the opportunity to rock this style rose when i got the chance to attend Misslyn's Private Beauty Event with a corresponding dress code : Colorful!

In short, this post in dedicated to Nessya, i hope you like it!

#Pink version of fairy kei :
Head to toe in pastel? Checked! Plastic-fantastic My Little Pony accessories? Checked! I decided not to wear too much plastic accessories and confuse the style with decora, but also because i had to start using the flash tattoos for review purposes hahaha. The flash tattoos blends well with fairy kei though, if i may say so myself, especially the dreamier designs such as the butterfly and moon bracelet.

I did some prior online research to learn more about the style (because i always take fashion very seriously WTF), especially the makeup, but there weren't much information about this style other than bright pastel colors and 80s plastic toy accessories, even more when it comes to the make up! Mostly they just mentioned pastel colors again, so... I decided to do one of my favorite thing to do with my eyeshadow (coz i ain't creative, darling T.T), pastel rainbow! And kept everything else harmonious (meaning pinky and soft hahaha).

Here's my Fairy Kei face :
And here's the super simple (coz we all know my makeup's always simple anyway haha) and easy to follow step by step tutorial :

First, base-of course.
I used :
C/o Simply Stay by Mustika Ratu Moisturizer Normal to Oily Skin (as primer)
C/o Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in Sand 36
Clinique All About Eyes Concealer in 01 Neutral
DHC Medicated Acne Care Concealer
C/o Collection Pressed Powder in 01 Candlelight
Esprique Precious Double Shine Face Powder (to highlight my nose bridge)

Of course, you do not need to use the exact same products if you want to re-create this look, any product that you have can work just fine ^^.
With base makeup and lip balm only :p (i was using Mentholatum Water Lip)
And for eye makeup :
Miki and Australis Makeup Palette (for eye shadow and blush)
Mai Doll Black Liquid Eyeliner
Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara
e.l.f Eye Primer
C/o Collection Work the Color Eyeshadow Pencil in Vanilla

The Face Shop Color My Brow in 03 Light Brown
Like always, my makeup is always very easy to follow hehe, apply eye primer all over your lid...
Then apply shimmery pink shadow all over the lid
Followed with mint green eye shadow in the middle part of the lid
And finally a purple eye shadow in the outer part of the lid, make a curve v shape following my eye contour
And never forget my thick, black and exaggerated down-ward black liner for a puppy dog effect
Finish the eye makeup with plenty of volumizing mascara (even better if you can apply falsies, as usual-i didn't have time to do this because i had to be ready at 9.30 for an event and i am NOT a morning person!), dark liner (i actually used a black eye shadow because they last longer and doesn't smudge on me) on the waterliner, leaving the inner part bare for the shimmery white liner (a must for any type of Gyaru/lolita makeup)
Then apply pinky blush on liberally (i used a bright pink color because i am naturally pale and the pastel eye makeup+soft lip color would make me really washed out if i wear a pale pink blusher as well)
Finished the look with a soft, juicy pink lip color (i'm using Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in 080 Strawberry Shortcake)
And ta-dahhh.. We're done! I put on my lilac and bubblegum pink highlight hairclips to compliment the whole look ^^
Lilac highlight hairclip : Kanubeea Hair Clip
 Bubblegum pink hairclip : Stroberi

Unfortunately due to my eye shape (with tapered double eyelid) it might be a bit hard to see the pastel rainbow eye color unless i look down like this haha
A Fairy Kei tutorial can only be considered complete with a classic J-style selfie hahaha
Now let's take a closer look on the outfit, shall we?
Duck face, peace sign...
Then i forgot i needed to promote the flash tattoos (i am an excellent brand ambassador, if you cannot tell yet HAHAHAHAH WTF)
The ruffled skirt has a very weird design because the hip sits right but it's actually highwaisted and the waist is... HUGE. Like... GIGANTIC. So it flaps around and bunch unattractively, making my mid looked huge (i have flat tums, okay! The only thing that i can take pride of my body LOLOLOL FML) grrrr, but it's cute and it suits the whole look perfectly so...
Of course, i had to harmonize the whole look including the bag and shoes...
Outfit details :
My Little Pony Necklace : Popolucastuff
Loose Carousel Unicorn Tee : Mrfreddyonline
Pink Tierred Highwaisted Skirt : Aegeshii (defunct)
Lolita Tights : Loli Dreamland
Bunny Sneakers : Shierly Ma OS
Pink Vintage Style Bird Bag : StvShop Surabaya

Yes, i shop online a lot -___-.

And that's all for now! I hope Nessya liked the fairy kei look i came up with (this look won me best dressed in Misslyn's event *LOL*)! This has been fun! Anyone has any suggestion on what look i should style next?
Yes yes, when you dress like one, you can act like one :P, it's an honorary right!

  3. I like how you created the wing of the eyeliner for the puppy dog effect. I've practiced it at home myself but didn't end up with the same perfect look whaha. I thought you applied hair chalk on your hair. Is the hair clip really the same hair length as your hair or you just adjusted it?

    1. Thank you, it's my current favorite eyeliner style :). It's accidentally the same length as my hair!
