Pink and Undecided: horror movie

February Movies

Hey guys!

Yes, the monthly movies review is slightly delayed again, i'm blaming myself for being too busy and ehm... Lazy. I'm currently taking a new side job/project, as i am essentially someone who can't really stand still for too long and gets bored easily, i enjoy getting new jobs (this latest one's thanks to my cousin L ^^ keep on hooking me up, boo!)! It does keep me busy (mainly attached to my phone since that's the nature of the job i'm taking hahaha so nothing too different than my normal life, except it has a purpose rather than mindless browsing hahaha) and i can't be as productive as i want to be tho-plus KC and CL's in town-y'all know what that means!

Anyway, February is always short (even with the extra day this year hahaha)-we ended up watching 4 movies. I can say i LOVE 2 out of 4, and enjoy the other two quite a lot too.

Let's start!

1. Deadpool

What can i say... This is the movie that you either love or hate. I happen to LOVE it! It's hilarious, full of witty-very dirty, but very smart and sarcastic jokes that not everybody can take. You need to be an open minded person, isn't squeamish about dirty languages (or blood and gory. Even i had to cover my eyes a few times, but then again my specialties are ghosts and supernaturals, not gory hahaha), not easily offended and most important of all : mature. LOL. Even if you're old enough, it doesn't mean you're mature enough to watch it. I know because i read some super silly statuses of people after watching the movie.

I mean... Even stupid people should know what they're getting into when they go to watch the movie (helloooo, have you not watched the trailer? Or heard about a million hints roaming around?) so i find it effing sickening when they complain about the effing obvious (again, the language, the jokes, the nudity, whatevs). If you know you can't take it : DON'T WATCH IT. Period.

Deadpool follows the story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary, Wade Wilson (of course played brilliantly and hilariously by the one and only Ryan Reynolds). When he's at the peak of his own kind of happiness (having found the love of his life), he also finds out that he has cancer. In order to get rid of the cancer, he agreed to be a subject to a rouge experiment that's supposed to lure out his mutation gene. While the experiment really cures him, it also gives him accelerated healing powers and Freddy Kureger-like appearance. Taking a new alter ego, Deadpool, he then goes on a hunt to find the guy who almost destroyed his life.

Yep, if you have a wicked sense of humor and not easily offended by dirty languages, enjoys a crazy ride and a crazy anti-hero : IT'S A FREAKING MUST SEE!

2. Zootopia

Now, this movie is also hilarous but unlike the first movie up there, this one is totally suitable for the whole family. It has a good moral (never give up on your dreams! Don't let race/sex stereotyping stops you from reaching your dreams!) and it's super entertaining!

Judy Hopps always wanted to be a policewoman, but everybody around her tell her it's never going to happen. No rabbits can ever be a policewoman-until she proves them all wrong by becoming Zootopia's (the uber modern mammal metropolis) first rabbit to join the police force. She turned out the be somewhat of a token rabbit and given the easiest, most mundane jobs without any possibilities of real crime fighting though. Always the little firecracker, she's determined to prove herself and jumps on the opportunity to solve a mysterious case when some mammals goes missing. This leads her to having to work with Nick Wilde, a fox (she has always had issues with foxes since childhood) who seems to be your regular scam artist-but is so much more than meets the eye.

I personally LOVE it! Maybe even a little more than Deadpool haha. I do love a good hearted animation with some seriously funny scenes! All four of us (hunny, Little O, Au and i) roared with laughter from start to finish and my favorite scene is the wolf security guards heh heh heh. Another must see!

3. Gods of Egypt

Okay... So i had my doubts about this movie when i saw the trailer *LOL*, i mean... All the shiny, metallic creature the gods supposedly can turn into? They reminded me of silly kids TV series like Kamen Rider *LOLOLOL*. It turned out to be quite okay, nothing special but it's not horrible-i cannot stand whenever the metallic creatures popped up in the screen tho! They look too cheesy...

There are many gods in the Egypt mythology and supposedly they love their creation so much that they decided to live with their creation on earth. Even gods need rules so there's always a king-and a new king is just to be appointed-Horus, son of Osiris, but on the day of the coronation, Osiris' brother Set (god of darkness) came to seize the throne, killed Horus and took out Horus' all seeing eyes. Egypt is thrown into the dark ages during his time as a ruler. A human, Bek, tries to save the love of his life by putting his faith (and all his might) on Horus, helping him to claim back the throne that's rightfully his.

Like i said, it's an okay movie. It's pretty entertaining and all (other than the disturbing metal creatures i cannot take my mind off hahaha), it's not a must see but watching it wouldn't be a total waste of money either. The guys in the movie are not my cup of tea, but this girl is :

Courtney Eaton plays Zaya, Bek's love interest in Gods of Egypt. Isn't she PWEEETTTYYYY? She's super sexy too *drool*.... What? A girl can drool on other girls while still staying straight, alright!

4. The Other Side of the Door

Well, i'd never miss any slightly interesting looking horror movie-and this one has a good synopsis and the trailer's quite promising too so i was quite excited about it.

Maria pretty much lives a perfect life as an expatriate in India with her loving husband and two adorable children until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. She blames herself for his passing and can't function properly, neglecting her husband and daughter, unable to move on. Their Indian maid, feeling sorry for her, tells her about a ritual that allows Maria to communicate one last time with her dead son, with a seemingly simple rules-which she, obviously, disobeyed. She went back to her house, feeling appeased and finally at peace-before she realized that when she broke the rule, she opens the portal between the world of the living and the world of the dead-upsetting the balance. Now she and her family must face the consequences.

It's not bad, actually! Like i said, i like the background (i really enjoy how they start to go to Asia as the background. After Japan in The Forrest and now India. It's just a matter of time before they set the background in Indonesia, i hope hahaha. The world needs to be introduced to Ms. Kuntilanak and her gank!). The story line is interesting and it's quite creepy and effective. It's not one of the scariest movie i've ever watched or anything, but it's totally decent and refreshing compared to recent horror movies available in the market. Die hard horror movie fans should totally check it out (although i must warn you the characters can be quite irritating and hard to root for at times hahaha)!

Those are all the movies we watched in February! Did you watch any of those? How did you like them?

January Movies

alien movie

Is there any medication i can take for short term memory loss? ZZZ.

I know i said i would mash January and February movies together because according to my (clearly unreliable) note, we only watched two movies in January. Writing a post for two movies makes me a bit (okay, a lot) lazy so i thought i'll just add the two movies to February Movies. But then i realized there are more movies that we watched than the ones on my list,. if i insist on adding them to Feb movies-the post would be too long and i'd be even lazier to write WTF. So here i am, writing about January movies at the end of February *sigh*.

We actually watched 5 movies on January. If i don't forget any other, that is!

Without further ado, let's just start, for goodness sake.

1. Alvin and the Chipmunks : The Road Chip

I liked Alvin's first movie, i thought it was funny, cute and endearing-but the quality got worse and worse in each movie, i thought the third one was quite bad. I didn't find that one to be funny, the jokes too forced and it was boring. So i wasn't excited at all for the fourth one, but since i have a young son who loves to watch movies in the cinema as much as his parents do, whenever there's an age-appropriate movie playing i'd offer him to watch it, and he wanted to watch this so... We did.

Dave (their "dad") is finally on a serious (new) relationship, when the boys saw a diamond ring, they immediately presumed that he was going to propose to the woman. They have no problem with her, but her son (who's a total troublemaker and became their enemy FTL) is. They also thought they'd get dumped if Dave marry her once he get himself a real family, so they made it a mission (alongside Miles, the son of Dave's girlfriend) to stop the proposal-getting into a LOT of troubles all the way (obviously).

It was actually not that bad! Not super fantastic or anything, but it was quite funny and touching (much better than the last one)! I didn't find myself getting bored, and i quite enjoyed the movie! It's not a must see of course, but it's not entirely horrible either. Totally watchable!

2.The Forest

We just got back from Japan (and wanting desperately to go back hahaha) when The Forest played in the cinema, i was immediately drawn to it when i read the synopsis of the movie taking place at the well known suicide forest, Aokigahara. The reviews were not very favorable, but i think the background itself is too interesting to pass so we went to watch it anyway.

Sara has a troubled twin sister (who always make a mess of her life, and Sara always has to clean it up for her) named Jess. Jess lives in Japan and teaches English at a local school. One day during a school trip, Jess was seen entering Aokigahara alone-that usually means hte person doing it wants to commit a suicide-and never got out. Sara is certain that Jess is still alive, so she went to Japan to look for her. She finally entered Aokigahara alongside a reporter named Aiden and is warned to stay on the path (among a list of don'ts), but there's a sinister power in that very forest that plays with people's minds, especially those who has a sadness in their hearts, and things started getting more and more weird.

It began rather promising, i really like the background (errr yeah, i became obsessed with Aokigahara and browsed about it for hours. I also developed an obsession to go there, not to kill myself of course *LOL*, just to see it. As i definitely have no sadness or any intention to die, i'm sure i'll be alright hahaha), the storyline is also not that bad really, but i think the movie's totally underdeveloped. And the ending was so unsastisfactory, it was annoying. Still, i don't think it's as bad as people made it out to be, it's not a must watch, but die hard horror movies might not necessarily think it's a total waste of time.

They need to explore Aokigahara more and make better horror movies there, i mean... the place's perfect for one! Make a scarier one please (this one's not scary at all)!

3.The 5th Wave

I guess i don't follow movie news much because i didn't even hear about The 5th Wave before, and even when it starts playing, i wasn't interested in it. Even after i heard good things about it, still i had my doubts because... well, it's an alien movie. And i really don't like alien stuffs *yeah yeah, i believe in ghosts but not aliens. Sue me*, but i really really like Chloe Moretz *LOL* and that's reason enough to go watch it.

Cassie is a normal teenage girl, with a normal life, normal family and normal teenage problems. One day her world (and the entire world, actually) turned upside down when a series of alien attacks starts happening. Her family members dies one by one except for her and her younger brother who then got separated from her. Cassie will do anything and everything to reunite with him. Along the way, she meets a (n insanely hot) young man named Evan Walker. Together they try to find Sam and survive the fifth attack of the aliens.

I'm glad we went to watch it because it's really good!!! First of all, the aliens aren't green and they don't have antennas so that's already a step to the right direction *LOL*. Chloe's acting's all solid and likeable as usual, the storyline is interesting and gripping, the action scenes cool and did i mention Evan Walker is H.O.T?

Alex Roe as Evan Walker

The only thing that bugs me a bit is how the chemistry between Chloe and Alex seems to be very superficial, i just don't think they're in love (in the movie, i mean). Maybe that's how it's supposed to be? Should i read the book?

Anyway, I can't wait for the second movie!!!

4. The Boy

Ever since i first saw the trailer, i've been waiting impatiently for this movie to play. I mean... a haunted doll made after a dead child??? So up my alley!!! Or so i thought. The movie turned out to be nothing like i expected and i left sorely disappointed. Oh, and please people, stop writing spoilers on your Facebook statuses! Hunny got so annoyed at an acquintance's status about this movie that i have to unfollow them (not unfriend, i just learned that you can unfollow without unfriending people, bliss!) to prevent this from happening again hahaha.

A young American (is it so wrong that i am gleeful that she's described as young? Because the actress playing her is older than me, this makes me feel less ancient hahaha) woman named Greta takes a job as a nanny (at the same time she's also running away from past abusive relationship) in a remote English village. She thought she's going to be a nanny to an 8 year old boy, imagine her surprise when the "boy" turned out to be a life sized doll. It's apparently made in resemblance to the couple's real son who died 20 years ago and they treat him like a living human. They went away on a "trip", leaving the doll to Greta's care with a list of rules that's to be followed strictly. As expected, Greta does opposite of what she's instructed and soon disturbing events starts to happen.

Thanks to the FB status, hunny already knew what the twist is *LOL* #poorhunny but i forced him not to tell me so i could still enjoy the first part of the movie. Once the twist was out... I immediately lost interest WTF zzzz. I don't want to spoil it for those of you who still haven't watch it, but i can say this : if you're looking for a creepy, supernatural horror movie, this is not it hahaha. No wonder i did not get scared for a sec in this movie. I don't like it, skip skip skip! (Having say that, this movie might interest those of you who likes other types of horror movies. It's just not my cup of tea, that's all. It's actually not bad, it was just not what i expected).

5. The Finest Hours

I have a thing for Chris Pine (oh well, i know i know, i have a thing for a lot of handsome actors. What can i do) so of course i was excited to watch this movie, which is based on a true story.

It took place in 1952, when a crazy storm splits the SS Pendleton ship in two, the first part sunk and gone while the other part held more than 30 sailors with nowhere to go. Without the captain, the ship's engineer (who knows about the ship more than anyone else) took the leadership in order to try to survive until help can reach them. Meanwhile in the Coast Guard in Chatham, there's a young Guardsman named Bernie (with dramas in his own life, involving a wife-to-be and previous failed rescue attempts that haunts him) is ordered by the chief to do a rescue mission-which most people believe is a mission impossible and practically a suicide.

I usually like rescue movies, especially the ones based on true story-and this one's not bad (rated 7.1 in IMDb, which is quite darn high. It's hard to please those people who give their rates out hahaha) but i dunno... I was a bit disconnected with it. The rescue part was gripping, of course, but the part in between was a bit draggish for me. I dunno what's wrong with me, but i found it to be just okay, nothing to spectacular. I'm also quite surprised that it's a Disney movie (hunny voiced his surprise as well so i am not the only one hahaha). It's pretty good, but personally i find it to not be a must watch *shrug*.

Well, that's it for January movies that almost didn't happen *LOL*. Did you watch any of those movies i listed?

November Movies

action movie

Hey guysss :D.

Can't believe it's a week into December already, geez. Time is not running away, it's whizzing past! I wonder if it feels faster the older you get??? I remember thinking that the clock seemed to stood still when i was little (up until i was a teenager actually), but now.... Days feels like seconds.

Anyway, towards the end of November i started picking up the pace of my blog posting, but once December starts.. I was feeling down again for no reason whatsoever the last couple of days *sigh* i truly have no idea what's wrong with me! Maybe it's pre-mid life crisis *grumble grumble* or maybe it's just PMS -___-.

Oh, i have a good news though! No, not a baby on the way, but we got ourselves a new fur baby! I named him Bear and he loveeessss me <333 *LOL*. Would probably blog about him soon, as soon as i teach him to wefie hahahaha.

Oh well, let's get into the topic... It's movie review time!

1. Paranormal Activity : The Ghost Dimension

Okay, how many Paranormal Activity movies are out already? It's crazy, i feel like we just watched the last one and here comes another one *LOL*. Wonder when the cow's gonna be dried out of milk? Hahaha. But yeah, i still gotta watch it (coz when you watch the first movie, then how can i not watch the sequels? #OCDlogic ). Anyway, this one's actually brought some excitement back for me (as in it's got me less sleepy and more scared haha), the previous few started to really be lackluster to me.

So The Ghost Dimension is following yet another new family, the Fleeges which consists of a young father, mother and their little daughter. They move into a house and of course, found some old stuffs belonging to the previous owner, including a video camera and tapes. The father started to use the camera (and watch the old tapes, which first few ones started innocent enough but soon turns more and more disturbing) he began seeing things that naked eyes can't see and paranormal activity start happening around them. Young Kristi and Katie (from the previous movies) re-emerge at the old videos.

Okay... Don't raise your hope too high, it's the fifth movie (not counting the spin offs) so originality is totally far from happening *LOL* but like i said earlier, i personally found it slightly better than the last few ones (which made me yawn instead of getting scared). I shared before how i don't like how the franchise's direction going (cult is not my kind of thang), but this latest movie brings back the classic jump-out-of-your-seat scenes, which i like i horror movies. It's nothing special, it's not super scary, but it's not super horrible either. If you're a huge horror fan like me, watching this movie doesn't harm haha.

2.Spectre

Hm yeah. Another James Bond Movie *LOL*. You can tell that i'm not that enthusiastic, right? But it was alright la, maybe because i have no expectation. Hunny told me it was below the expectation and lots of people are disappointed at the finale of the trilogy, i thought it was not bad especially from mid to the end.

James Bond receives a cryptic message from the past and he went to inspect it all the way from Mexico City to Rome (without actual permission from his bosses). He infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of a dark organization called Spectre. At the same time, a new head of CNS tries to close down MI6. Bond roped in Q to help find find Madeleine Swann, daughter of Mr. White (his old nemesis) who has connection and understanding about Spectre. They went to the heart of Spectre and Bond learns the connection between him and his enemy.

The first half an hour (or was it 45 minutes...) was super slow, draggish and boring. I was almost asleep *LOL*. But when it gets to the mid of the movie, the pace started to pick up and it keeps getting better from it. Admittedly, it's not as action packed as how die hard Bond fans would like it, but i think it was pretty good and entertaining. Not something that i would bash my head for if i missed it haha.

3. Kakak

I haven't been watching local horror movies for the longest time. I used to love local horror movies, but then they started to shift into porn-comedy horror, which is so not my cup of tea so i stopped going. Such a shame because back then, we really had some very memorable, creepy horror movies *sigh*. I'm still hoping for some good one to be available and usually when the leading lady is an actress known for their chops instead of their willingness to show a lot of skin, that'd be the indicator that the movie should be decent (but then again i used to watch Shandy Aulia's horror movies hoping that they'd be good and so far i've also been disappointed. I mean, no boobies shown and no real scares, that's worse than boobies+no scare okay hahahaha)

This movie Kakak (which is Indonesian word to call someone older than you, like big bro/big sis) is starring Laudya Cynthia Bella (who recently started using Hijab and there's a lot of brouhaha because she's hijab-less in this movie and actually wore some quite skimpy outfits if you compare it with hijab! This was shot before she started using though, so personally i don't think she should be crucified for it...) who's a rather serious actress locally, and i thought the trailer looked decent so i decided to check it out.

This movie follows a married couple who's struggling to have a baby, the wife already suffered multiple miscarriages. They decided to move to a house (they used to live with the husband's very dominating, extremely irritating mother) and soon the wife (who suffers from chronic asthma) discover that they're not alone in that house. There's a spirit of a young girl (who was the daughter of the previous house owner) who died there, likes to help them out and treats them like her parents. But like all children, she can be quite mischievous and since she's no longer alive-sinister at times.

I quite like the plot and they classy way they make the ghost appear (not gross and overly narcissistic like most local horror nowadays), the storyline's not bad and there are actually some really good jump-out-of-my-seat scenes. Of course, loads of plotholes (can't escape them with Indonesian horrors) and there are some things that's bothering me badly. Laudya Cynthia Bella's not a bad actor, but her acting whenever she gets the "asthma attacks" annoys the shit out of me -___-. She makes some really ugly faces and weird whizzing sounds from her teeth. As someone who actually suffers from asthma, that really offended me -___-. Well at least they didn't make her wear long, sheer lingerie and wakes up wearing crazy falsies and blue eye shadows (like Shandy Aulia in most of her horror movies LOLOLOL).

It's not bad at all, i actually enjoyed it a lot (aside from those cringe-worthy asthma attack scenes).

4. The Hunger Games : Mockingjay Part 2

Well, i never hid the fact that i'm not a fan of The Hunger Games, i only started to like it in Mockingjay Part 1 (no offence to Hunger Games fan, it's a matter of preference. I like idiotic love stories like Twilight better, Hunger Games' a bit too political for my daft brain) so i was quite looking forward to the second part. Aside from the very brief (i was like "HUH??? That's it???") climax, i do like Mockingjay Part 2.

Picking up from where the last movie left off, Katniss continues to be the Mockingjay (symbol of the rebellion). Peeta is still not his normal self and tries to attack her from time to time but she never gives up on him. Despite President Coin's order for her to stay back, she found her way to the Capitol with one purpose, to kill President Snow. Katniss and her squad (including her old friend/old lover Gale and later on, still kinda uncontrollable Peeta) must find their way safely (well, that part doesn't quite happen) to the Capitol while dodging traps and muts.

The movie's rather exciting and entertaining for me, lots of action scenes and unexpected attacks (coz i don't read the books, i guess). It keeps on building up momentum, that's why the climax is a bit (or very) brief and unsatisfactory for me hahaha. It's still good though, i can totally say i like Mockingjay movies although i found the first two movies quite so so. Oh, and i found Jennifer Lawrence a lot more likable in these last two movies (that's saying a lot because i used to really really dislike her haha).

5. Victor Frankenstein

Okay, here's another story that i found being retold way too often and i'm not really a fan of hahaha. I mean, there's only so many ways you can look at the angles of the Frankenstein story and i personally find it's kinda stale already. But since it's starring the always so passionate James McAvoy, i decided to give it a try.

This movie is telling the story from Igor (Frankenstein's assistant, which i didn't even know existed *LOL* i guess he doesn't get a lot of parts usually), starting from his origins and how Frankenstein rescued and gives him proper life. Of course then we're led to the part where he is introduced to his master's crazy experiments and actually have a pivotal role in the success (if we can call it that).

It's quite good actually, a lot better than i anticipated. I mean, i actually expect to be bored out of my wits, already knowing the basic story and the fact that it won't deviate too far from it. But looking from Igor's eyes are quite refreshing. It's quite gross too, i'm glad we didn't bring any snacks in or i'd be gagging zzzz. I guess mostly i was mesmerized by James McAvoy's acting (hell, he can act as anything and i guess i'd still be mesmerized)-Daniel Radcliff wasn't so bad either, although i kept on having to hold the urge to shout "Harry Potter, is that you?" in annoying fake British accent WTF.

6. The Good Dinosaur

Little O's been waiting for the longest time for this movie! While i.... Am not a fan of dinosaurs anything (but i do like animation movies) so i was not that enthusiastic hahaha. I ended up liking it quite a lot though, not crazy over it or whatever (it's no Inside Out), but i do enjoy it very much.

The movie begins with the what if, what if the asteroid that changed life on earth missed our planet entirely and dinosaurs never became extinct? Well, according to the maker, they become civilized and humanized hahaha. We follow the life of a farmer Apatosaurus family consists of a papa dino, mama dino and three little dinos. Arlo is the youngest of all three and since he's little, he feels like he's different-not as good as his sibling or parents and is always scared. He cannot find his place just yet.

Like usual, the family fams corns and hoard them to survive winter-but a vermin (which turn out to be, yeah you guess it-a little human boy hahaha) keeps on stealing their stash. Papa Dino set up a trap and sent Arlo to finish the vermin if it got caught, but Arlo's soft (and kind, although often mistaken as weak) heart prevent him from killing the human boy. Papa Dino lost his patience and bring Arlo to hunt for the vermin and finish the job, but tragedy struck. A while after, Arlo got into another accident and lost his way, that's when he realized that the "vermin" is actually a lot like him, and that he is looking out for him. Together they go on a journey to find their way back home.

Spot

It's quite a nice movie, some (of course) touching and tear jerking scenes and i really love Spot (the human vermin *LOL*, he's so so cute!) but i personally don't find it to be one of Disney's best. Again maybe because i am a girl and dino movies are always more like boys kind of thing? Hunny, Little O and i enjoyed the movie from start to finish though and i totally recommending it for everybody, especially if you're a fan of animation movies.

And that's all for November movies. I just realized that most of them are very so so, i don't have any strong feeling for any of them. I guess my fave would be The Good Dinosaur, least fave Kakak haha (i don't hate it though). Hope for more exciting movies in December (i already listed 3 movies to watch ASAP)!

October Movies

action movie

Okay, may as well clarify that from now on (eh, actually been going on for a while now haha) my monthly movie review would be posted somewhere in the next month, most possibly towards the end now to avoid any unrequited expectations HAHAHAHA.

Oh well, here are the movies we watched on October :D :

1. The Martian

When hunny told me about this movie, i immediately felt a sense of deja vu. Mark Damon's stranded in other planet alone.. Again? LOL. Only this time he plays the good guy (which suits him better anyway) and the movie's much more entertaining and easier to digest (no weird stuffs) than Interstellar.

During a mission to Mars, the American astronauts were caught in a crazy storm and one of them, Astronaut Matt Watney got badly injured while the rest couldn't find him and must evacuate or risk all of their lives. The whole world thinks Watney's dead, but he miraculously survives and now he has to find a way to keep himself alive (and grow food in a planet where nothing grows) and try to contact the earth to let them know he's still alive.

Unlike Gravity, where we saw a struggle to stay alive that makes us feel well... Kinda depressed, Matt Watney never lost him sense of humor and made us laugh with/at him with his upbeat personality and quirkiness. Of course, it also brought tears to my eyes (towards the end), but this is definitely the kind of movie that gives you hope-a feel good kind of movie (which is fantastic, because sad endings depresses me). Absolutely brilliant, love it! Highly recommending it!

2. The Vatican Tapes

Well. One of the movies which i should've believed the online reviews. As always, too excited for any horror movie-and the trailer didn't look too bad (IMO)-but the reviews mostly are very bad. Still, i persisted because sometimes we ended up liking some movies even though most people hate them (like The Gallows, i thought it was not that bad). Sadly that didn't happen this time, it was... Pretty much crap *LOL*.

Angela Holmes is a very ordinary, normal 27 year old woman, she has a devoted dad (who's just a tad over protective) and loving boyfriend. Life seems to be nothing but normal for her until one day she got into a small accident on her birthday and she immediately began to change. She becomes more and more weird, everything about and around her starting to get really spooky, she somehow even causing others to suffer injuries and death. A priest who witnessed the tragedies around him arranged for an exorcism, but turns out Angela is not possessed by a common demon but by an ancient satanic force more powerful than anyone can ever imagine.

Honestly there are so many possession movies (mostly bad too) nowadays, it's getting tedious. Still, there are a few brilliant ones that make me willing to go through loads of the crappy ones in search for them. Actually i found The Vatican Tapes started off pretty interestingly-albeit predictable-but... it never picked up. I read people saying how the ending's unexpected and brilliant, but i dunno... I didn't like the ending. It's just.... Weird. And somehow it feels like it's ending just when it's about to get interesting. I don't like it at all -____-, just watch other movies and skip this one entirely. Oh, and i really think Michael Pena should stick to comedies.

3. Pan

On the contrary, i wasn't that interested to watch Pan (i'm never interested in Peter Pan, period) and i wouldn't even consider going to watch it if not for Little O (i wasn't interested even after watching the trailer) but like some movies can be, it totally exceeded my (nonexistent) expectation and ended up liking it quite a bit!

Peter lives in an orphanage and with his best friend, he always seems to get into trouble with the horrible head of the orphanage. Peter saw one by one his friends disappeared at night, "adopted" is what they were told but one night he experienced the "adoption" for himself, and he was actually taken to a magical world... the Neverland. But Neverland is not yet like the Neverland we know, it was ruled by a cruel pirate, the Blackbeard (played brilliantly by Hugh Jackman) and Peter started to reveal his origins-to become Peter Pan that we're all familiar with.

Yeah, it's actually a pretty fun movie! Entertaining, colorful, with beautiful costumes and cinematography. It's fast enough to keep me entertained the whole time, no time to get bored! The fantasy world really comes to life (and the mythical creatures, especially the mermaids-they were depicted wonderfully), hunny, Little O and i were really entertained. It was a bit confusing seeing Pan was such a good friend with Hook, i hope a sequel would be made so we'll get to know the direction of this added story will go (i'd love to know how Peter and Hook becomes sworn enemy!). Quite recommended for the whole family!

4. The Walk

Another movie that exceeded my expectation. I wasn't sure i'd enjoy a movie based on a true story of Philippe Petit (a French high wire artists), i mean... Wouldn't it be boring? As much as i LOVE Joseph Gordon-Levitt and all (HATE his hair in this movie, though hahaha). But yup, it's a nice movie alright! With the right amount of amusing scenes, heart stopping scenes (you know, when he's walking the ropes on a crazy height) and heart warming ones.

Philippe Petit has been in love with rope walking since a circus came to his small French hometown, even though his dad didn't approve of his career of choice, he didn't care. He found a mentor in Papa Rudy and dream of walking the twin towers of WTC in New York City. He is determined enough to make his dream a reality and concocted a mad plan with his gang (which includes his then girlfriend, his best friend and some other people they recruited).

Seriously, i found it a bit hard to believe that a movie which center is about a man trying to walk on a rope between two skyscrapers could be so gripping, interesting and entertaing-but it was! So much drama, so much craziness and silliness as well! I hate Joseph's accent (and i repeat, his hair) but he's brilliant as Philippe Petit (he's always brilliant anyway, right?). And i just realized that there is no English metaphor for Indonesian's saying "Nasi sudah menjadi bubur" (literal translation would be "Rice has become porridge". Pretty much meaning "It's done, nothing we can do about it") but there's a French one (i dunno the French words, but it literally means "The carrot's cooked") LOL.

5. Goosebumps

I was a HUGE fan of Goosebumps series when i was young, i have lots and LOTS of the books and never missed one. My son actually likes creepy stories too, but unlike me (i was a strange little kid... A loner too), he's a chicken hahaha. He's always curious, but then he'd get really scared and can't even be left alone anywhere (even in the middle of the day) after watching anything mildly scary (he's better now, though). He recently showed some interests in Goosebumps (yes, they're reprinting the old ones-and maybe there are new ones as well? I dunno) but sadly i've sold all of my old Goosebumps books. He was very excited about Goosebumps the movie, and Goosebumps' never that scary anyway so i knew it was the perfect slightly-creepy movie for Little O to watch.

Zach Cooper recently moved from a big city to a small town and he's having some difficulties adjusting to his new life. He then meets a pretty girl who lives next door who has a very strange and strict dad-who turns out to be R.L Stine of Goosebumps fame. Apparently, R.L. Stine's monsters becomes real and he has to keep them trapped in the books, until Zach accidentally opens one-leading to all of the other books getting opened as well! Now it's all up to Zach, Hannah, R.L. Stine and Zach friend Champ (yes, that's his real name) to get them back into the books before they destroy the whole world!

Er... I dunno, i guess i have a high expectation for this movie (afterall it's not everyday that your favorite childhood series's made into a movie) and it's not bad but it's not fantastic either. Little O was thoroughly entertained (and a bit spooked *LOL*), while i got slightly sleepy at some parts (i guess childhood faves are not the same once you're a full grown adult hahaha). It's still pretty entertaining, funny too (Champ is hilarous), and it's fantastic to see all those monsters come to life. I would recommend this especially if you have children (above 7, the younger ones might find it too scary) who are interested in spooky movies but can't watch the real deal yet!

6. Crimson Peak

Oh.... I LOVEEEEEE this oneeeee :D! It's such a beautiful movie, twisted too hahaha-perfect for an oddball like me! I knew i'd love it since i saw the trailer, and for once i am not disappointed! I love it even more than i thought i would! I love Tom Hiddleston even more now... I'll always choose Loki over Thor hahaha. Oh FYI, this is NOT a horror movie-it's a gothic romance, and that's another thing altogether so don't expect spooky ghosts! There are some jump-out-of-the-seat scenes actually, but not much and the ghosts are often ugly but never scary, just mesmerizing!

Edith Cushing is a rather modern woman for her time, she's a writer and unlike most women writer at that era, she's more into horror stories. One day she meets this tall, dark (not the skin tone, just the hair and eye color hahaha), handsome stranger and she fell in love with him. Her dad disapprove after hiring a detective to look into Thomas Sharpe's background, but he soon die tragically and nothing prevents Edith from marrying Thomas. Once she moves to his castle with him and his sister, ghosts of his past starting to bug her, revealing his dark secrets.

The whole movie has this ethereal, dreamy but dark quality in them. The costume, the dialog... Everything's perfect. I don't find Mia Wasikowska pretty so i'd prefer someone else aesthetically, but she plays the part beautifully so i don't really mind. Tom however, was perfect as tormented, confused but charming and dark Thomas Sharpe, and of course Jessica Chastain.... So wickedly delicious! Love all the crazy twists too! The story's pretty straight forward, but the twist is pretty crazy. I LOOOOVEEEE this, highly recommending this movie for all who are into dark fantasy kind of movie!

7. The Last Witch Hunter

I'm not a fan of Vin Diesel and the only movie he stars in that i enjoy's Fast n Furious franchise (or, i like him as Groot too, but only because i couldn't see his face and he can only say groot, heh heh heh), so i was not that enthusiastic when hunny insisted on watching this movie. Fortunately, unlike his other movies (i especially dislike his Riddick movies), this one's full of mythical creatures, magic and witches-which i love! And yep, i quite like this movie!

Hundreds of years ago, the Queen Witch released the black plague that kills so many lives, the devastated families of the victim swore to hunt her down and kill her, including Kaulder (Vin Diesel) who lost both his wife and young daughter. He succeeded in slaying her, but just before she died, she cursed him with immortality. Fast forward to present time, Kaulder is now the last witch hunter, serving the Axe and Cross to protect humanity from evil witches. In his work, he's always accompanied by a priest called "Dolan" and on the eve of the current Dolan's retirement, he dies in his sleep. Kaulder suspected foul play and found out that a witch killed him. After some investigation, Kaulder and the next Dolan realized that a witch is trying to resurrect the Queen Witch and they had to work together to prevent it from happening.

Yep, i quite like this movie. With all the crazy things witches can do, it's pretty awesome! Even Vin Diesel couldn't spoil the movie for me *LOL*. It's very entertaining, if you like fusion between dark fantasy and action, this is a pretty worthy movie to spend some time on!

Andddd that's all of the movies we watched on October! Mostly are decent and pretty good with the exception of The Vatican Tapes. My fave's definitely Crimson Peak, i spent many days obsessing over dreamy Tom Hiddleston after watching it *LOL*.

Another thing that i've been obsessing over (and still am, since i am currently reading the book number four of the Dollanganger series) is the Flowers in the Attic series. If you like twisted, weird family saga, you might want to check it out! It's a TV movie (s) though so you can only watch it online now. I won't go into detail as i plan to review them separately!

Gotta go now, toodles!

September Movies

action fantasy

Hey guysss...

It's well passed mid October and i only write my September movie reviews >.<, for once i actually REALLY forgot to! I only realized that the month has changed sometime in the 10th or something hahahaha. THEN i got lazy-and so many things going on, October's totally full of celebration in this household! 5 family members celebrate their (our, coz i am included) bdays in this month.

Anyway, better write the review before the month ends :p.

1. Sinister 2

I'm always excited whenever a horror movie's showing in the cinema, but i actually forgot that i watched the first movie-until i Googled it and immediately remembered after reading the synopsis. The first movie was actually quite haunting and eery that the plot stuck to my head, although the title clearly didn't.

Picking up from the ending of the first movie, another family (a mother and 2 sons who are clearly running away from something) move into a rural house (marked for death) next to a Church where a horrific crime just took place. The deputy from the first movie is trying to locate the next house marked for death to try to break the pattern when he found the family and tries to save them from Bhughul (the demon).

Like the first movie, it's still very eerie (there's something about kids killing their whole family mercilessly that'd creep the hell out of everyone!) and strange, but towards the end, i did think it's verging on the cheesy side, this part made this sequel to not be as good as the first movie-however, i don't think it ruined the movie that badly still. So yeah, not as good as the first one IMO, but not bad either. Spooky, twisted and weird, if you're a strange cookie like me, you'd enjoy it for sure.

2. Transporter Refueled

I didn't care much for this movie, it's not very bad or whatever-but the new guy's ain't Jason Statham (i can't believe i said that. Since when i like Jason Statham so much. But i gotta admit, he is pretty cool and almost all action movies are cool when he stars in them :p he just got the swag i guess). It's not that Ed Skrein is ugly (although i do find his teeth disturbing), but he definitely couldn't bring what Jason Statham did to the franchise. According to hunny, his "coolness" is forced, and i think i agree.

Frank Martin is a former special-ops mercenary turn "delivery man", he transports classified packages or person (s) for a living. When his father (who always says that he works for Evian but clearly he was a spy) visits him, their weekend got upside down when Frank is hired by a woman and her sidekicks who ended up using his service as a pickup for a heist. Frank and his father got dragged into the whole mess and must play a dangerous game against a sinister Russian kingpin.

Heh. I know Transporter storylines are hardly believable, but this one is rather.... tangled (for lack of a better word) even for their standard. And why did they use the same character, why not just replace him with a new character? Ed Skrein looks nothing like Jason Statham so it's just... confusing!

It's not super bad, but it's definitely not a must watch, totally skippable i'd say. Got rated 4.9 in ImdB and i agree with the numbers.

3. Maze Runner : The Scorch Trials

I liked the first movie a lot (especially because i went in without any expectation) so i was really looking forward to the second movie (partly for Ki Hong Lee, i'm not gonna lie) and it didn't disappoint! A few seconds into this movie, hunny was like "Hah? Why does it become zombie movie all of sudden???", and yeah-because i didn't read the books before and there's no sign of zombies whatsoever in the first movie, i was also very surprised! Frankly speaking, none of us are zombie movies enthusiasts, but trust me, this one's so much more than your regular walking dead movies!

Picking up where the first movie left off, Thomas and his fellow Gladers found themselves in a facility where they are assured to be safe and protected from WCKD. It doesn't take long for Thomas (ever so sensitive) to realize, the place's much more sinister than it appeared to be, especially when they prevented him to see his sweetheart who they said to still be going through different tests. Soon, he discover that it's still WCKD they're against and their only choice to survive is to run away, but running away proven to be as trying as staying.

Well, i like it! Even more than the first one, i'd say! It's so different from the first movie that it feels like watching another movie altogether, and that's refreshing! It's still action packed, nail grittingly good and you're kept at the edge of your seat at all time! One of my fave dystopian movies for sure! And Ki Hong Lee stole the show once again, do you know that there are memes making fun about the fact that his character's more famous than the main character? LOL.

Ki Hong Lee as Min Ho

And he really is one of the fine example about how Asian don't age, shocked me when i found out that he's not that much younger than me (i'm practically ancient for Hollywood standard, yeah?), i thought he's in his very early 20s instead of very late 20s!

Anyway, a must watch for dystopian/action/popcorn movie lovers, it's very entertaining and worth every penny!

4. Hotel Transylvania 2

I gotta admit that i did not like the first movie all that much, i thought it was not that funny, very cheesy and dry... I liked the characters, but i was just not a fan of the movie. So i was not very excited about the sequel (if the original is not that good, how can the sequel be any better?), even after i watched the trailer-but Little O was all excited about it so we went to watch it... And i surprisingly enjoyed it very much!

So Mavis is all grown up and she ended up marrying the human boyfriend, Johnny. All's well, they live happily at the hotel and it gets even better when Mavis got pregnant and gave birth to an adorable baby boy, Dennis. But when Dennis is growing up and reaching 5 (the point where it's the final timeline for his vampirism can appear), Drac's getting more and more restless. Mavis feels like Drac could not accept Dennis for what he is (probably human) and that the hotel is probably not a very safe place for a human boy to grow up in so she is considering moving to Johnny's hometown. Johnny loves living in the hotel so he conspire with Drac to make Mavis wants to stay-all leading to huge troubles ahead!

I love this movie! Personally feel like it's 10x better than the first film (wonder if because it's so family related???), i actually LOL-ed a LOT (and got touched. If an animation movie makes me teared, i am sold!!!) and found some scenes to be totally hilarious (my fave is the You Tube video of Drac going coo coo, coo coo)! I guess it's not the best animation movie of all time and not everybody would love it as much as i do (hunny actually thinks the first movie was funnier, which is the total opposite of my opinion, but then again he does like cheesy, slapsticks scenes)-but it's still a funny, entertaining, fun movie for the whole family! Recommended!

5. Black Mass

I have mixed feelings about this one. I didn't want to watch it at first, the trailer looks boring to me, but hunny insisted to so i relented. As usual, when hunny insisted on watching a heavier type of movie, i ended up getting more interested than him, i had to kick him a few times during the movie to keep him awake (even though he'd never admit it. He never does). I still don't think this movie's all that good (i'm not a fan of mafia type of movies really), but it's still very interesting especially because it's based on a true story.

It is the true story of Whitey Bulger, the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston who also happens to have a brother who became a senator (this part is really jaw dropping for me). In the late 70s, Whitey (who was then still a smaller time-but as cruel nonetheless-criminal, but already is the godfather of the Irish Mob) is approached by John Connoly, an important FBI agent who he grew up with in South Boston (or as they call it, Southie), John convinces Whitey to become an informant for FBI to help the FBI take down Boston's Italian Mafia in exchange of some immunity. The deal spins out of control and Whitey made it to FBI's Ten Most Wanted List.

First of all, Johnny Depp in disguise to become pouchy, balding older guy (well, Depp really is not that young either, but he looks young! Especially for his age. I guess normal 52 year old guys might look more like his character than Depp?) is disturbing (but when i see pictures of the real Whitey Bulger, i can see that the make up department actually did a pretty good job), especially those scary contacts he uses *shudder*. The movie itself is a bit slow, draggy at part, very rough and super brutal (i don't have problem watching ghost movies, but gory, brutal ones are hard for me) with loads and loads of blood and graphic murder scenes. I guess it makes the move more real and serves the purpose of telling the story, but that makes it a heavier type of movie that's definitely not for everybody. But if you like true stories about real criminal, yes-this is the movie for you!

That's the end of September movies list! We also watched Everest but i liked it so much i wrote an entire post dedicating to the movie (read it here), but there's another movie i want to mention, it's an old one and i watched it online : The Pact. It's a 2012 movie but just showed in local cinema last years WTF, then the sequel (which is nowhere near as good as the first movie) is showing in the cinema-of course i wanted to check it out since it's a horror movie, but i decided to watch the first movie first online (and then the second one online too hahaha)-it's SO MUCH BETTER than i expected! Creepy, effective, and with unexpected twist!

Nichole Barlow returned to her childhood house to take care for her mother's funeral and asked her sister Annie to help her, Annie refused since she's too traumatized with how their mother treated them. After making a video call to her daughter, Nichole disappeared and Annie had no choice but went back to look for her. Their cousin Liz has Nichole's daughter (Eva), three of them met at the funeral house and Annie asked Liz to accompany her stay at her mother's house but Liz too, disappear that night. Annie witnessed violent supernatural events leading to Liz's disappearance but of course the authority does not believe her and Annie became a suspect instead.A detective, Bill, decided to help her and together they return to the house to try to investigate what's really happening, more danger are waiting for them.

It's not the perfect horror movie (and it's definitely not in Insidious or The Conjuring level!), lots of plot holes (and it's actually an indie movie with a shoe string budget) that gave me a lot of questions, but it's actually very good! One of the most effective horror movie i've seen in a while. If you're a huge horror movie fan like me, i highly recommend you to check it out!

Okay, now we really come to the end of the post! What movies have you watched lately? And what movies are you planning to watch next? I'm planning to watch Goosebumps, Crimson Peak and American Ultra soon!
