Pink and Undecided: fantasy movie

February Movies

Hey guys!

Yes, the monthly movies review is slightly delayed again, i'm blaming myself for being too busy and ehm... Lazy. I'm currently taking a new side job/project, as i am essentially someone who can't really stand still for too long and gets bored easily, i enjoy getting new jobs (this latest one's thanks to my cousin L ^^ keep on hooking me up, boo!)! It does keep me busy (mainly attached to my phone since that's the nature of the job i'm taking hahaha so nothing too different than my normal life, except it has a purpose rather than mindless browsing hahaha) and i can't be as productive as i want to be tho-plus KC and CL's in town-y'all know what that means!

Anyway, February is always short (even with the extra day this year hahaha)-we ended up watching 4 movies. I can say i LOVE 2 out of 4, and enjoy the other two quite a lot too.

Let's start!

1. Deadpool

What can i say... This is the movie that you either love or hate. I happen to LOVE it! It's hilarious, full of witty-very dirty, but very smart and sarcastic jokes that not everybody can take. You need to be an open minded person, isn't squeamish about dirty languages (or blood and gory. Even i had to cover my eyes a few times, but then again my specialties are ghosts and supernaturals, not gory hahaha), not easily offended and most important of all : mature. LOL. Even if you're old enough, it doesn't mean you're mature enough to watch it. I know because i read some super silly statuses of people after watching the movie.

I mean... Even stupid people should know what they're getting into when they go to watch the movie (helloooo, have you not watched the trailer? Or heard about a million hints roaming around?) so i find it effing sickening when they complain about the effing obvious (again, the language, the jokes, the nudity, whatevs). If you know you can't take it : DON'T WATCH IT. Period.

Deadpool follows the story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary, Wade Wilson (of course played brilliantly and hilariously by the one and only Ryan Reynolds). When he's at the peak of his own kind of happiness (having found the love of his life), he also finds out that he has cancer. In order to get rid of the cancer, he agreed to be a subject to a rouge experiment that's supposed to lure out his mutation gene. While the experiment really cures him, it also gives him accelerated healing powers and Freddy Kureger-like appearance. Taking a new alter ego, Deadpool, he then goes on a hunt to find the guy who almost destroyed his life.

Yep, if you have a wicked sense of humor and not easily offended by dirty languages, enjoys a crazy ride and a crazy anti-hero : IT'S A FREAKING MUST SEE!

2. Zootopia

Now, this movie is also hilarous but unlike the first movie up there, this one is totally suitable for the whole family. It has a good moral (never give up on your dreams! Don't let race/sex stereotyping stops you from reaching your dreams!) and it's super entertaining!

Judy Hopps always wanted to be a policewoman, but everybody around her tell her it's never going to happen. No rabbits can ever be a policewoman-until she proves them all wrong by becoming Zootopia's (the uber modern mammal metropolis) first rabbit to join the police force. She turned out the be somewhat of a token rabbit and given the easiest, most mundane jobs without any possibilities of real crime fighting though. Always the little firecracker, she's determined to prove herself and jumps on the opportunity to solve a mysterious case when some mammals goes missing. This leads her to having to work with Nick Wilde, a fox (she has always had issues with foxes since childhood) who seems to be your regular scam artist-but is so much more than meets the eye.

I personally LOVE it! Maybe even a little more than Deadpool haha. I do love a good hearted animation with some seriously funny scenes! All four of us (hunny, Little O, Au and i) roared with laughter from start to finish and my favorite scene is the wolf security guards heh heh heh. Another must see!

3. Gods of Egypt

Okay... So i had my doubts about this movie when i saw the trailer *LOL*, i mean... All the shiny, metallic creature the gods supposedly can turn into? They reminded me of silly kids TV series like Kamen Rider *LOLOLOL*. It turned out to be quite okay, nothing special but it's not horrible-i cannot stand whenever the metallic creatures popped up in the screen tho! They look too cheesy...

There are many gods in the Egypt mythology and supposedly they love their creation so much that they decided to live with their creation on earth. Even gods need rules so there's always a king-and a new king is just to be appointed-Horus, son of Osiris, but on the day of the coronation, Osiris' brother Set (god of darkness) came to seize the throne, killed Horus and took out Horus' all seeing eyes. Egypt is thrown into the dark ages during his time as a ruler. A human, Bek, tries to save the love of his life by putting his faith (and all his might) on Horus, helping him to claim back the throne that's rightfully his.

Like i said, it's an okay movie. It's pretty entertaining and all (other than the disturbing metal creatures i cannot take my mind off hahaha), it's not a must see but watching it wouldn't be a total waste of money either. The guys in the movie are not my cup of tea, but this girl is :

Courtney Eaton plays Zaya, Bek's love interest in Gods of Egypt. Isn't she PWEEETTTYYYY? She's super sexy too *drool*.... What? A girl can drool on other girls while still staying straight, alright!

4. The Other Side of the Door

Well, i'd never miss any slightly interesting looking horror movie-and this one has a good synopsis and the trailer's quite promising too so i was quite excited about it.

Maria pretty much lives a perfect life as an expatriate in India with her loving husband and two adorable children until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. She blames herself for his passing and can't function properly, neglecting her husband and daughter, unable to move on. Their Indian maid, feeling sorry for her, tells her about a ritual that allows Maria to communicate one last time with her dead son, with a seemingly simple rules-which she, obviously, disobeyed. She went back to her house, feeling appeased and finally at peace-before she realized that when she broke the rule, she opens the portal between the world of the living and the world of the dead-upsetting the balance. Now she and her family must face the consequences.

It's not bad, actually! Like i said, i like the background (i really enjoy how they start to go to Asia as the background. After Japan in The Forrest and now India. It's just a matter of time before they set the background in Indonesia, i hope hahaha. The world needs to be introduced to Ms. Kuntilanak and her gank!). The story line is interesting and it's quite creepy and effective. It's not one of the scariest movie i've ever watched or anything, but it's totally decent and refreshing compared to recent horror movies available in the market. Die hard horror movie fans should totally check it out (although i must warn you the characters can be quite irritating and hard to root for at times hahaha)!

Those are all the movies we watched in February! Did you watch any of those? How did you like them?

December Movies

action fantasy

So this month the monthly movies review is more than just a tad late.

I swear i wanted to blog it once i returned from Japan (not more than a week later) but... I kinda forgot what movies we've watched on December (sometimes the movies just jumbled together in my brain and i always say "We watched that LAST month? I thought it was 3 months ago!"). I always write the movies down in my old Blackberry (that i don't use much anymore ever since i got my Iphone. Just use it for BBM and writing down notes) and... Well. I lost my Blackberry in Japan -___-.

If you've been following this blog for awhile then you'd know this is the second time i lost my Blackberry FML. Fortunately (if i can even call it that) this time round i lost it oversea and all of our possessions are insured. You know how i feel about travel insurance, but for once i'm quite grateful that hunny didn't even ask for my opinion and went ahead and got us insurance. Lost it pretty early in the trip so we managed to get the crucial documents from the police (not like it mattered last time, but i am much smarter and bitchier now so the insurance company better not try anything smart to me) and all of other documents needed to claim the insurance. Everything is sent and we're just waiting for the process. They do anything funny there's gonna be a second part of that rant post.

ANYWAY.

That's why i didn't blog sooner. Lost all wills because whenever i think about writing this, i remember about my old, trusted Blackberry again. Some people make jokes about how nice it is, just lose your old things and get a new one when i'm overseas, i know it's just a joke but it offends me a bit. I am not that kind of person. Instead of a new one, i'd be much happier if i can get my old phone back. I'm sentimental like that. Not to mention all of those important notes i have in it. SIGH. Now i gotta start them anew, mostly based on my (crusty) memory.

So i'm not even sure if i'm going to be able to review all of the movies we actually watched last month. Might miss one or two *sigh* coz we simply can't remember!

Oh well, here are those that we do remember.

1. Point Break

If you know me then it's easy to see that this is not the kind of movie i am excited for #LOL. I wasn't. Wouldn't even consider watching it if hunny's not so insistent on doing so. After watching it, even though it wasn't bad or anything, it left me with nothing -___-. Definitely not my kind of movie, but it's still watchable and pretty good to spend some time on.

An extreme sports addict slash famous Youtuber is looking for a change of career, he wants to be an FBI agent after losing his best friend in an accident which he believes to be his fault. His first assignment is to find and identify individuals who comitted some mind-boggling crimes at crazy and extreme circumstances, seemingly without any obvious gain for themselves. He went undercover so deep and found himself in his old world, and finding more than some things in common with the supposed enemies-he found brothership (should i say, bromance?) with them. When things got out of control, he has to make a choice between his new and old world.

This movie is sure is a show off. I mean, loads of adrenaline inducing, BIG scenes that make you gasp and gawk. But i don't see a lot of point in it. I ended up with "But whyyyy?" in the end of the movie *LOL*. Maybe i don't get it because i am not an adrenaline junkie. Heck, i have to be dragged to get on most scary rides (did i tell you i cried when we rode Tower of Terror in DisneySea? Yeah, i did. But more because i was scared because it's my first time. It's nowhere as scary as how i expected it to be *LOL*) so risking your life for the thrill of it... is not something that i can understand. Maybe you need to have that (passion) to be able to be immersed in this movie. In the meantime, it's pretty entertaining and thrilling so i would recommend watching it if you want to live precariously through someone. On the screen.

PS : Luke Bracey reminded me of young Paul Walker and that saddened me. At the same time i can't believe he's 26, he looks so much older than me -____-

2. The Peanuts Movie

I never really watched Snoopy's series (i didn't even know that it's actually called The Peanuts before) when i was little, i was a strange kid who didn't like cartoon too much. When i do watch cartoons, i prefer Japanese ones (Doraemon and Sailor Moon are my fave!). When i saw the trailer, it looks like a sweet, wholesome movie (it was) that i should drag my son to before he gets too old to enjoy it.

Unlike me, you might be more familiar with the Peanuts gang (i only know Snoopy, believe it or not). Charlie Brown (Snoopy's BFF) is a sweet, kind little boy who thinks (and thought of by his peers) of himself as a loser. He fell in love with a pretty red-haired girl who just moved in town and he's trying very hard to be a better version of himself to win her over, with the help of Snoopy-who also spends a lot of time imagining that he's a world class jet pilot in pursue of his nemesis, the Red Baron.

It's a very sweet movie, and innocent. And not something most kids nowadays used to. It's quite pure so i was a tad worried that it might be boring for Little O (he was engrossed. His daddy, on the other hand, fell asleep quite a few times). I personally enjoyed it, there are parts that got me bored (not a fan of those scenes of Snoopy's imaginations), but i did love it in the most part. It also touched me, and i love the moral of the movie as well. They simply don't make that kind of kid movies anymore. I would highly recommend this movie especially for those with young children. It taught us that it's okay not to always be the hero, it's okay to be sweet (most kids these days would think that it's not cool to be sweet), and ordinary. And kindness always wins in the end.

3. In the Heart of the Sea

Wanna see Thor got skeletal? Go see this! Just kidding. It's a great movie, i definitely liked it a lot. It's about the whaling ship that got assaulted by a giant whale (a whale is gigantic already, talk about massive!) and later inspired Moby-Dick. I never read Moby-Dick though, i didn't know what to expect.

This movie mostly tells the story of Owen Chase, an experienced sea-man and whaling expert who has the disadvantage in climbing the "corporate ladder" in the whaling world due to his background. He is, once again, having to take a second place in the newest expedition to babysit a richman's son with the right background to be the captain of their whaling expedition. One fateful day, their ship sunk because of a mammoth sized whale attack and we got to see how the team must do anything and everything they can do in order to survive.

It's good, much better than i expected. I was worried i might get bored (especially because KC insisted and dragged us to watch it in Premiere XXI. I don't like watching movies in Premiere, weird as it might sound. I prefer to sit comfortably in normal movie seats!), but it wasn't boring at all. It was intense and gripping. It's quite of a must see and i am glad to see Chris Hemsworth owning the role. I honestly never liked his other roles other than Thor, but in this movie he really became Owen Chase.

4. Single

I like Raditya Dika a lot, he's so effing hilarious i can't even. I watched most of his movies (but mostly when he plays himself) and never dislike any of them. But i was a bit hesitant about this movie because he's playing someone else and i'm not sure that he's a good actor *LOL*. But i needn't worry, he's smart enough to write the character to resemble his normal self (just a bit stupider and more innocent) that he still looked comfortable enough.

Ebi (Raditya Dika) is a single 27 year old (in Indonesia, if you're still single at 27 it's questionable *LOL*, people are expected to be married in their late 20s), very naive and a little bit of a loser. He still can't find a job (not even a good job, any job at all), lives in a kost an (basically a huge house with multiple rooms rented for various people) with his 2 best friends and still asks for money from his mother. He is very desperate for a girlfriend and tries to find one in any way he can-with the help of his two friends. He then fell in love with a new girl that just moved in, but not only his own insecurity prevent his from making a move, she also comes with her own baggage, including a super annoying "big bro" who always had a crush on her.

It's HILARIOUS seriously. I hate how most Indonesian comedies are slapsticks and stupid nowadays, but with the emergence of those stand up comedians making movies, we are in for a treat! Smarter jokes, subtle but super silly gestures, simple but big hearted stories, well they definitely win us over with their kind of comedy! I highly recommend this movie for anyone, i think it got English subs too for overseas market, hopefully the jokes won't get lost in translation. It's highly recommended and suitable for everybody (except children for some of the cruder jokes).

5. Star Wars Episode VII : The Force Awakens

I'm definitely not a fan of Star Wars, in fact i am one of those who must be eliminated according to Star Wars fanatics because i used to not be able to differentiate between Star Wars and Star Trek *LOL*. I am better than that now, but i still don't know much about Star Wars except for the central characters (thanks for the crash lesson, Little O!). I almost totally refused to watch this movie (because i haven't watched the first 6 movies WTF wouldn't i be more than a little lost?), i tried watching the older ones on TV with hunny and Little O but i really don't like old movies. Alas, my little boy is a huge fan of Star Wars (nerd hottie in the making?) so we went to watch it anyway. I was surprised because it was easy enough to understand (although i did have to ask Little O once i a while who that person on the screen was *LOL*) and it's actually very entertaining!

I'm not good at explaining this kind of movies, so imma copy the synopsis from their IMDb :

30 years after the defeat of Darth Vader and the Empire, Rey, a scavenger from the planet Jakku, finds a BB-8 droid that knows the whereabouts of the long lost Luke Skywalker. Rey, as well as a rogue stormtrooper and two smugglers, are thrown into the middle of a battle between the resistance and the daunting legions of the First Order.

Yeah, that. I don't know if (according to hunny) it's easier to watch and more family (and girls) friendly because it's now owned by Disney, but i do like it a lot (so those who are in the same boat as me, don't worry-go watch it!). It's funny, it's entertaining and it's thrilling. I would no longer resist watching the next installment *LOL*. At the moment i have to deal with a BB8-obsessed husband and Storm Trooper/Kylo Ren-obsessed son. I don't mind collecting the merchandises though, they're cute.

6. Ip Man

Ip Man makes me like Donnie Yen. A lot. I used to see him as this non-descript fighting guy in Chinese movies-but now i totally associate him with Ip Man. Love him as Ip Man, still can't enjoy watching his other movies. It's like he becomes Ip Man now, any other roles makes him look unnatural (a bit like Thor up there).

In this third installment, Ip Man witnessed a band of brutal gangsters led by a crooked property developer trying to take over the city. They even wreak havoc in his son's school because they wanted to buy the place, and the headmaster (who's also the owner, i guess) refused (and rightfully so) to. He and his students kept watch of the school, while his deteriorating wife (unknown to him, she's getting very ill) getting more and more agitated as he spends more time protecting the school (and city) than his own family.

Story wise, it's not as solid as the first two movies. There are a lot more added drama (i'm not sure that the real Ip Man really fought off a black boxer back in the day), but it's still good. And Donnie Yen proves that he CAN act (those scenes with the dying wife...), not only fight. And people commented on how the other guy was trying too hard to be Asian Johnny Depp (LOL. I didn't realize it when i watched it, but i sort of get in when i was told). Lots of fascinating wing chun fights of course, a must see for all martial art fans (or non fans. I was never a fan of martial art anything, but i loved Ip Man), action movie fans, Chinese movie fans, or any movie goers really. I'm sad that this is (most probably) the last time we're seeing Donnie Yen as Ip Man. Unless they decided to make a Bruce Lee movie on this Ip Man-training day, that is.

I THINK that those are all the movies we watched in December. I can't think of anymore, if there's any that i missed then i will be reviewing it when i remember it *LOL*. Like this movie, which supposed to be in October Movies but totally slipped my mind :

American Ultra

There's something compelling about Jesse Eisenberg. He's not conventionally good looking, he doesn't look tough, he's not super charming but i like to watch him. Especially when he's playing a weird, sensitive, anti hero like his role in American Ultra (i like to see him as a cold, badass sorta jerk-like his role in Now You See Me too). Kristen Stewart in the other hand, i don't get her. I don't get how she still got roles *LOL*. I don't think she can act -___-. And she's not even that pretty. I guess Twilight gave her career insurance.

Mike Howell lives in a small town in the middle of nowhere, where nothing ever really happens. He spends most of his time getting high with his girlfriend and write comic books about super hero monkey. But what he doesn't know is that he was actually a trained killing machine made by CIA. He is then targeted for termination, got activated by his former handler (his skills woke up but somehow he still had no idea what's going on, probably due to the drugs) and must avoid all of the killers unleashed by the CIA to eliminate him, save himself and his girlfriend with his newfound powers.

I like this movie, it's crazy! Funny, exciting, and you root for the total loser-with-superhuman-powers to the end! I personally think it's a very cool movie (although you can totally replace Kristen with any generic Hollywood girl, it wouldn't make any difference. She brings nothing to this movie) and would totally recommend this to anyone (who has weird tastes like me).

Okay! That's all! It's almost the end of January and i would have to work on January Movies soon. LE SIGH.

Bare-faced and nerdy looking

October Movies

action movie

Okay, may as well clarify that from now on (eh, actually been going on for a while now haha) my monthly movie review would be posted somewhere in the next month, most possibly towards the end now to avoid any unrequited expectations HAHAHAHA.

Oh well, here are the movies we watched on October :D :

1. The Martian

When hunny told me about this movie, i immediately felt a sense of deja vu. Mark Damon's stranded in other planet alone.. Again? LOL. Only this time he plays the good guy (which suits him better anyway) and the movie's much more entertaining and easier to digest (no weird stuffs) than Interstellar.

During a mission to Mars, the American astronauts were caught in a crazy storm and one of them, Astronaut Matt Watney got badly injured while the rest couldn't find him and must evacuate or risk all of their lives. The whole world thinks Watney's dead, but he miraculously survives and now he has to find a way to keep himself alive (and grow food in a planet where nothing grows) and try to contact the earth to let them know he's still alive.

Unlike Gravity, where we saw a struggle to stay alive that makes us feel well... Kinda depressed, Matt Watney never lost him sense of humor and made us laugh with/at him with his upbeat personality and quirkiness. Of course, it also brought tears to my eyes (towards the end), but this is definitely the kind of movie that gives you hope-a feel good kind of movie (which is fantastic, because sad endings depresses me). Absolutely brilliant, love it! Highly recommending it!

2. The Vatican Tapes

Well. One of the movies which i should've believed the online reviews. As always, too excited for any horror movie-and the trailer didn't look too bad (IMO)-but the reviews mostly are very bad. Still, i persisted because sometimes we ended up liking some movies even though most people hate them (like The Gallows, i thought it was not that bad). Sadly that didn't happen this time, it was... Pretty much crap *LOL*.

Angela Holmes is a very ordinary, normal 27 year old woman, she has a devoted dad (who's just a tad over protective) and loving boyfriend. Life seems to be nothing but normal for her until one day she got into a small accident on her birthday and she immediately began to change. She becomes more and more weird, everything about and around her starting to get really spooky, she somehow even causing others to suffer injuries and death. A priest who witnessed the tragedies around him arranged for an exorcism, but turns out Angela is not possessed by a common demon but by an ancient satanic force more powerful than anyone can ever imagine.

Honestly there are so many possession movies (mostly bad too) nowadays, it's getting tedious. Still, there are a few brilliant ones that make me willing to go through loads of the crappy ones in search for them. Actually i found The Vatican Tapes started off pretty interestingly-albeit predictable-but... it never picked up. I read people saying how the ending's unexpected and brilliant, but i dunno... I didn't like the ending. It's just.... Weird. And somehow it feels like it's ending just when it's about to get interesting. I don't like it at all -____-, just watch other movies and skip this one entirely. Oh, and i really think Michael Pena should stick to comedies.

3. Pan

On the contrary, i wasn't that interested to watch Pan (i'm never interested in Peter Pan, period) and i wouldn't even consider going to watch it if not for Little O (i wasn't interested even after watching the trailer) but like some movies can be, it totally exceeded my (nonexistent) expectation and ended up liking it quite a bit!

Peter lives in an orphanage and with his best friend, he always seems to get into trouble with the horrible head of the orphanage. Peter saw one by one his friends disappeared at night, "adopted" is what they were told but one night he experienced the "adoption" for himself, and he was actually taken to a magical world... the Neverland. But Neverland is not yet like the Neverland we know, it was ruled by a cruel pirate, the Blackbeard (played brilliantly by Hugh Jackman) and Peter started to reveal his origins-to become Peter Pan that we're all familiar with.

Yeah, it's actually a pretty fun movie! Entertaining, colorful, with beautiful costumes and cinematography. It's fast enough to keep me entertained the whole time, no time to get bored! The fantasy world really comes to life (and the mythical creatures, especially the mermaids-they were depicted wonderfully), hunny, Little O and i were really entertained. It was a bit confusing seeing Pan was such a good friend with Hook, i hope a sequel would be made so we'll get to know the direction of this added story will go (i'd love to know how Peter and Hook becomes sworn enemy!). Quite recommended for the whole family!

4. The Walk

Another movie that exceeded my expectation. I wasn't sure i'd enjoy a movie based on a true story of Philippe Petit (a French high wire artists), i mean... Wouldn't it be boring? As much as i LOVE Joseph Gordon-Levitt and all (HATE his hair in this movie, though hahaha). But yup, it's a nice movie alright! With the right amount of amusing scenes, heart stopping scenes (you know, when he's walking the ropes on a crazy height) and heart warming ones.

Philippe Petit has been in love with rope walking since a circus came to his small French hometown, even though his dad didn't approve of his career of choice, he didn't care. He found a mentor in Papa Rudy and dream of walking the twin towers of WTC in New York City. He is determined enough to make his dream a reality and concocted a mad plan with his gang (which includes his then girlfriend, his best friend and some other people they recruited).

Seriously, i found it a bit hard to believe that a movie which center is about a man trying to walk on a rope between two skyscrapers could be so gripping, interesting and entertaing-but it was! So much drama, so much craziness and silliness as well! I hate Joseph's accent (and i repeat, his hair) but he's brilliant as Philippe Petit (he's always brilliant anyway, right?). And i just realized that there is no English metaphor for Indonesian's saying "Nasi sudah menjadi bubur" (literal translation would be "Rice has become porridge". Pretty much meaning "It's done, nothing we can do about it") but there's a French one (i dunno the French words, but it literally means "The carrot's cooked") LOL.

5. Goosebumps

I was a HUGE fan of Goosebumps series when i was young, i have lots and LOTS of the books and never missed one. My son actually likes creepy stories too, but unlike me (i was a strange little kid... A loner too), he's a chicken hahaha. He's always curious, but then he'd get really scared and can't even be left alone anywhere (even in the middle of the day) after watching anything mildly scary (he's better now, though). He recently showed some interests in Goosebumps (yes, they're reprinting the old ones-and maybe there are new ones as well? I dunno) but sadly i've sold all of my old Goosebumps books. He was very excited about Goosebumps the movie, and Goosebumps' never that scary anyway so i knew it was the perfect slightly-creepy movie for Little O to watch.

Zach Cooper recently moved from a big city to a small town and he's having some difficulties adjusting to his new life. He then meets a pretty girl who lives next door who has a very strange and strict dad-who turns out to be R.L Stine of Goosebumps fame. Apparently, R.L. Stine's monsters becomes real and he has to keep them trapped in the books, until Zach accidentally opens one-leading to all of the other books getting opened as well! Now it's all up to Zach, Hannah, R.L. Stine and Zach friend Champ (yes, that's his real name) to get them back into the books before they destroy the whole world!

Er... I dunno, i guess i have a high expectation for this movie (afterall it's not everyday that your favorite childhood series's made into a movie) and it's not bad but it's not fantastic either. Little O was thoroughly entertained (and a bit spooked *LOL*), while i got slightly sleepy at some parts (i guess childhood faves are not the same once you're a full grown adult hahaha). It's still pretty entertaining, funny too (Champ is hilarous), and it's fantastic to see all those monsters come to life. I would recommend this especially if you have children (above 7, the younger ones might find it too scary) who are interested in spooky movies but can't watch the real deal yet!

6. Crimson Peak

Oh.... I LOVEEEEEE this oneeeee :D! It's such a beautiful movie, twisted too hahaha-perfect for an oddball like me! I knew i'd love it since i saw the trailer, and for once i am not disappointed! I love it even more than i thought i would! I love Tom Hiddleston even more now... I'll always choose Loki over Thor hahaha. Oh FYI, this is NOT a horror movie-it's a gothic romance, and that's another thing altogether so don't expect spooky ghosts! There are some jump-out-of-the-seat scenes actually, but not much and the ghosts are often ugly but never scary, just mesmerizing!

Edith Cushing is a rather modern woman for her time, she's a writer and unlike most women writer at that era, she's more into horror stories. One day she meets this tall, dark (not the skin tone, just the hair and eye color hahaha), handsome stranger and she fell in love with him. Her dad disapprove after hiring a detective to look into Thomas Sharpe's background, but he soon die tragically and nothing prevents Edith from marrying Thomas. Once she moves to his castle with him and his sister, ghosts of his past starting to bug her, revealing his dark secrets.

The whole movie has this ethereal, dreamy but dark quality in them. The costume, the dialog... Everything's perfect. I don't find Mia Wasikowska pretty so i'd prefer someone else aesthetically, but she plays the part beautifully so i don't really mind. Tom however, was perfect as tormented, confused but charming and dark Thomas Sharpe, and of course Jessica Chastain.... So wickedly delicious! Love all the crazy twists too! The story's pretty straight forward, but the twist is pretty crazy. I LOOOOVEEEE this, highly recommending this movie for all who are into dark fantasy kind of movie!

7. The Last Witch Hunter

I'm not a fan of Vin Diesel and the only movie he stars in that i enjoy's Fast n Furious franchise (or, i like him as Groot too, but only because i couldn't see his face and he can only say groot, heh heh heh), so i was not that enthusiastic when hunny insisted on watching this movie. Fortunately, unlike his other movies (i especially dislike his Riddick movies), this one's full of mythical creatures, magic and witches-which i love! And yep, i quite like this movie!

Hundreds of years ago, the Queen Witch released the black plague that kills so many lives, the devastated families of the victim swore to hunt her down and kill her, including Kaulder (Vin Diesel) who lost both his wife and young daughter. He succeeded in slaying her, but just before she died, she cursed him with immortality. Fast forward to present time, Kaulder is now the last witch hunter, serving the Axe and Cross to protect humanity from evil witches. In his work, he's always accompanied by a priest called "Dolan" and on the eve of the current Dolan's retirement, he dies in his sleep. Kaulder suspected foul play and found out that a witch killed him. After some investigation, Kaulder and the next Dolan realized that a witch is trying to resurrect the Queen Witch and they had to work together to prevent it from happening.

Yep, i quite like this movie. With all the crazy things witches can do, it's pretty awesome! Even Vin Diesel couldn't spoil the movie for me *LOL*. It's very entertaining, if you like fusion between dark fantasy and action, this is a pretty worthy movie to spend some time on!

Andddd that's all of the movies we watched on October! Mostly are decent and pretty good with the exception of The Vatican Tapes. My fave's definitely Crimson Peak, i spent many days obsessing over dreamy Tom Hiddleston after watching it *LOL*.

Another thing that i've been obsessing over (and still am, since i am currently reading the book number four of the Dollanganger series) is the Flowers in the Attic series. If you like twisted, weird family saga, you might want to check it out! It's a TV movie (s) though so you can only watch it online now. I won't go into detail as i plan to review them separately!

Gotta go now, toodles!

September Movies

action fantasy

Hey guysss...

It's well passed mid October and i only write my September movie reviews >.<, for once i actually REALLY forgot to! I only realized that the month has changed sometime in the 10th or something hahahaha. THEN i got lazy-and so many things going on, October's totally full of celebration in this household! 5 family members celebrate their (our, coz i am included) bdays in this month.

Anyway, better write the review before the month ends :p.

1. Sinister 2

I'm always excited whenever a horror movie's showing in the cinema, but i actually forgot that i watched the first movie-until i Googled it and immediately remembered after reading the synopsis. The first movie was actually quite haunting and eery that the plot stuck to my head, although the title clearly didn't.

Picking up from the ending of the first movie, another family (a mother and 2 sons who are clearly running away from something) move into a rural house (marked for death) next to a Church where a horrific crime just took place. The deputy from the first movie is trying to locate the next house marked for death to try to break the pattern when he found the family and tries to save them from Bhughul (the demon).

Like the first movie, it's still very eerie (there's something about kids killing their whole family mercilessly that'd creep the hell out of everyone!) and strange, but towards the end, i did think it's verging on the cheesy side, this part made this sequel to not be as good as the first movie-however, i don't think it ruined the movie that badly still. So yeah, not as good as the first one IMO, but not bad either. Spooky, twisted and weird, if you're a strange cookie like me, you'd enjoy it for sure.

2. Transporter Refueled

I didn't care much for this movie, it's not very bad or whatever-but the new guy's ain't Jason Statham (i can't believe i said that. Since when i like Jason Statham so much. But i gotta admit, he is pretty cool and almost all action movies are cool when he stars in them :p he just got the swag i guess). It's not that Ed Skrein is ugly (although i do find his teeth disturbing), but he definitely couldn't bring what Jason Statham did to the franchise. According to hunny, his "coolness" is forced, and i think i agree.

Frank Martin is a former special-ops mercenary turn "delivery man", he transports classified packages or person (s) for a living. When his father (who always says that he works for Evian but clearly he was a spy) visits him, their weekend got upside down when Frank is hired by a woman and her sidekicks who ended up using his service as a pickup for a heist. Frank and his father got dragged into the whole mess and must play a dangerous game against a sinister Russian kingpin.

Heh. I know Transporter storylines are hardly believable, but this one is rather.... tangled (for lack of a better word) even for their standard. And why did they use the same character, why not just replace him with a new character? Ed Skrein looks nothing like Jason Statham so it's just... confusing!

It's not super bad, but it's definitely not a must watch, totally skippable i'd say. Got rated 4.9 in ImdB and i agree with the numbers.

3. Maze Runner : The Scorch Trials

I liked the first movie a lot (especially because i went in without any expectation) so i was really looking forward to the second movie (partly for Ki Hong Lee, i'm not gonna lie) and it didn't disappoint! A few seconds into this movie, hunny was like "Hah? Why does it become zombie movie all of sudden???", and yeah-because i didn't read the books before and there's no sign of zombies whatsoever in the first movie, i was also very surprised! Frankly speaking, none of us are zombie movies enthusiasts, but trust me, this one's so much more than your regular walking dead movies!

Picking up where the first movie left off, Thomas and his fellow Gladers found themselves in a facility where they are assured to be safe and protected from WCKD. It doesn't take long for Thomas (ever so sensitive) to realize, the place's much more sinister than it appeared to be, especially when they prevented him to see his sweetheart who they said to still be going through different tests. Soon, he discover that it's still WCKD they're against and their only choice to survive is to run away, but running away proven to be as trying as staying.

Well, i like it! Even more than the first one, i'd say! It's so different from the first movie that it feels like watching another movie altogether, and that's refreshing! It's still action packed, nail grittingly good and you're kept at the edge of your seat at all time! One of my fave dystopian movies for sure! And Ki Hong Lee stole the show once again, do you know that there are memes making fun about the fact that his character's more famous than the main character? LOL.

Ki Hong Lee as Min Ho

And he really is one of the fine example about how Asian don't age, shocked me when i found out that he's not that much younger than me (i'm practically ancient for Hollywood standard, yeah?), i thought he's in his very early 20s instead of very late 20s!

Anyway, a must watch for dystopian/action/popcorn movie lovers, it's very entertaining and worth every penny!

4. Hotel Transylvania 2

I gotta admit that i did not like the first movie all that much, i thought it was not that funny, very cheesy and dry... I liked the characters, but i was just not a fan of the movie. So i was not very excited about the sequel (if the original is not that good, how can the sequel be any better?), even after i watched the trailer-but Little O was all excited about it so we went to watch it... And i surprisingly enjoyed it very much!

So Mavis is all grown up and she ended up marrying the human boyfriend, Johnny. All's well, they live happily at the hotel and it gets even better when Mavis got pregnant and gave birth to an adorable baby boy, Dennis. But when Dennis is growing up and reaching 5 (the point where it's the final timeline for his vampirism can appear), Drac's getting more and more restless. Mavis feels like Drac could not accept Dennis for what he is (probably human) and that the hotel is probably not a very safe place for a human boy to grow up in so she is considering moving to Johnny's hometown. Johnny loves living in the hotel so he conspire with Drac to make Mavis wants to stay-all leading to huge troubles ahead!

I love this movie! Personally feel like it's 10x better than the first film (wonder if because it's so family related???), i actually LOL-ed a LOT (and got touched. If an animation movie makes me teared, i am sold!!!) and found some scenes to be totally hilarious (my fave is the You Tube video of Drac going coo coo, coo coo)! I guess it's not the best animation movie of all time and not everybody would love it as much as i do (hunny actually thinks the first movie was funnier, which is the total opposite of my opinion, but then again he does like cheesy, slapsticks scenes)-but it's still a funny, entertaining, fun movie for the whole family! Recommended!

5. Black Mass

I have mixed feelings about this one. I didn't want to watch it at first, the trailer looks boring to me, but hunny insisted to so i relented. As usual, when hunny insisted on watching a heavier type of movie, i ended up getting more interested than him, i had to kick him a few times during the movie to keep him awake (even though he'd never admit it. He never does). I still don't think this movie's all that good (i'm not a fan of mafia type of movies really), but it's still very interesting especially because it's based on a true story.

It is the true story of Whitey Bulger, the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston who also happens to have a brother who became a senator (this part is really jaw dropping for me). In the late 70s, Whitey (who was then still a smaller time-but as cruel nonetheless-criminal, but already is the godfather of the Irish Mob) is approached by John Connoly, an important FBI agent who he grew up with in South Boston (or as they call it, Southie), John convinces Whitey to become an informant for FBI to help the FBI take down Boston's Italian Mafia in exchange of some immunity. The deal spins out of control and Whitey made it to FBI's Ten Most Wanted List.

First of all, Johnny Depp in disguise to become pouchy, balding older guy (well, Depp really is not that young either, but he looks young! Especially for his age. I guess normal 52 year old guys might look more like his character than Depp?) is disturbing (but when i see pictures of the real Whitey Bulger, i can see that the make up department actually did a pretty good job), especially those scary contacts he uses *shudder*. The movie itself is a bit slow, draggy at part, very rough and super brutal (i don't have problem watching ghost movies, but gory, brutal ones are hard for me) with loads and loads of blood and graphic murder scenes. I guess it makes the move more real and serves the purpose of telling the story, but that makes it a heavier type of movie that's definitely not for everybody. But if you like true stories about real criminal, yes-this is the movie for you!

That's the end of September movies list! We also watched Everest but i liked it so much i wrote an entire post dedicating to the movie (read it here), but there's another movie i want to mention, it's an old one and i watched it online : The Pact. It's a 2012 movie but just showed in local cinema last years WTF, then the sequel (which is nowhere near as good as the first movie) is showing in the cinema-of course i wanted to check it out since it's a horror movie, but i decided to watch the first movie first online (and then the second one online too hahaha)-it's SO MUCH BETTER than i expected! Creepy, effective, and with unexpected twist!

Nichole Barlow returned to her childhood house to take care for her mother's funeral and asked her sister Annie to help her, Annie refused since she's too traumatized with how their mother treated them. After making a video call to her daughter, Nichole disappeared and Annie had no choice but went back to look for her. Their cousin Liz has Nichole's daughter (Eva), three of them met at the funeral house and Annie asked Liz to accompany her stay at her mother's house but Liz too, disappear that night. Annie witnessed violent supernatural events leading to Liz's disappearance but of course the authority does not believe her and Annie became a suspect instead.A detective, Bill, decided to help her and together they return to the house to try to investigate what's really happening, more danger are waiting for them.

It's not the perfect horror movie (and it's definitely not in Insidious or The Conjuring level!), lots of plot holes (and it's actually an indie movie with a shoe string budget) that gave me a lot of questions, but it's actually very good! One of the most effective horror movie i've seen in a while. If you're a huge horror movie fan like me, i highly recommend you to check it out!

Okay, now we really come to the end of the post! What movies have you watched lately? And what movies are you planning to watch next? I'm planning to watch Goosebumps, Crimson Peak and American Ultra soon!

May Movies

action comedy

Hey guys...

Have you ever heard of Sympathy Pregnancy Syndrome? Well, i just totally made that up *LOL* but upon googling, there is a medical term for this phenomena (it's really called Couvade Syndrom or sympathetic pregnancy) where one's partner shares and experiences pregnancy syndromes while their other half's expecting. But it's clearly supposed to happen to the husband/lover/boyfriend/girlfriend/whatever... And not to one's BFF!!!

As you might already know (if you haven't then you must've not read the announcement), #Undecided is preggers and yup.. I have been sharing the pregnancy symptoms. I was actually nauseated and dizzy for days (like, really really sick) leading up to the discovery of the pregnancy (so it's definitely not the power or suggestion since it's already happening before any of us knew she's pregnant, not even #Undecided herself!) and nowadays i get weird cravings >.< - but the worst part's sharing her pregnancy brain!!! (It's really bad, #Undecided whined to me about not feeling like herself anymore *LOL*, she said "I pride my brain, BB!!! Without it, what am i???" It's hilarious... Until i got it as well pfffftttt).

You should know by now that i am a very obsessive person, and when i make a plan i always make sure i follow damn through no matter what (so bailing out on a "date" or not attending an event/party when i already promised i would is impossible) plus i always plan way ahead. Last Saturday my MUA friend Shelley contacted me for a second meeting with a Japanese beauty salon owner, i was so chill after the spa that i pretty much skimmed her words and read only what i wanted to read *LOL*-i thought i agreed to a meeting on Tuesday, we even planned to meet way earlier so we can go shopping and have lunch beforehand-until Monday afternoon.

I was still in my PJs as usual, my Blackberry's abandoned upstairs (i don't always bring my phone with me when i'm at home so it's actually harder to get a hold of me when i'm home than outside!). At around 12 i went upstairs to laze around in my room-and saw my Blackberry messenger with a lot of PING! from Shelley asking me where i was. WTF.

My heart dropped to the floor and i scrolled up our convo from Saturday, sure enough she said "Monday at 11" hahhh WFFFFF, how did my brain not register that???? OMG OMG. Thankfully Shelley's an independent woman *LOL* and she didn't mind (too much) waiting for me scrambling around to get ready like a mad person while she shopped by herself. And thank God for agreeing to meet way earlier! She had to wait for almost an hour by herself, but at least that's better than me not touching my Blackberry until 5 PM or something, right? Sigh. It was really horrible and i felt super badddd (so sorry again Shelley, if you're reading this :p), that simply never happened before! And i hope never again! Shooo #Undecided and her pregnancy brain, stop affecting me hahaha.

Anyway, thankfully everything went smoothly afterwards. The meeting went well and we ended up having quite a shopping spree (would've gone to another mall and continue if not for my yoga class hahaha) so it was a lot of fun :P.

And that's probably the longest nonsense i've ever written on a monthly movies review post that's got absolutely not connection at all with the movies i'm about to review. Let's begin now :p.

We didn't watch a lot of movies on April, and it continued right to May-we ended up only watching four movies in total!

1. The Lazarus Effect

I admit that the trailer didn't look all THAT interesting, and i was hoping for a good horror movie (you know, the ghost type) after not getting my dose for a while but after reading the synopsis i realized it's not that kind of horror either. Was quite desperate to go out and watch something so we went anyway.

A group of researcher achieve the unimaginable, bringing the dead back to life. After their first successful trial with a dead animal, the dean of their university heard about their experiment and their whole project was shut down and all of their equipment confiscated. The team wasn't going to go down without a fight and they attempt to recreate the experiment while they still had some access to the lab-when everything went horribly wrong and one of their own (Zoe-successfully portrayed by Olivia Wilde-she was creepy!) was killed. Her colleague slash fiancee, Frank, pushes the team to try and resurrect Zoe. The procedure seems like a success at first, until they start to realize that there is something horribly wrong with Zoe.

Yeah... I agree with majority of reviews out there, i think the storyline can actually be quite interesting (and yes, i agree that it's hardly original, but classics can also be good) but it's not developed enough. The pace's also a bit too slow at some parts (i hate draggy horror movies, they put me to sleep zzzz) and Zoe's supernatural power confuses me. Personally would prefer if the movie's more clear whether it wants to go to possession kind of flow or Carrie style, mixing both only adds to more confusion. Not a must watch by a mile, totally skippable.

2. Mad Max : Fury Road

I saw the trailer and i thought the Mad part of the title described it perfectly *LOL*. Hunny warned me about the movie being full of freaky (because he played the video game and knew what to expect) characters, i told him there's Tom Hardy in it, i think i can endure any freaks as long as i get to see his pretty face.

The story is set in an apocalyptic world, where humanity is broken and civilization is almost extinct, everyone is well.. Mad. They all try to survive by killing each other. There are a few rebels left, one is Max (a man whose sanity seems to be at the brink of collapse due to his guilt of losing his wife and child)-he was suddenly abducted by a group of (absolutely crazy *LOL*, both in looks and behavior) punks called "War Boys" and become their "blood bag" (quite literally). The war boys belong to a tyrant leader called Immortan Joe, a sickly old man who hides behind a facade and theatrics to control "his people". One of his most trusted lieutenant, a woman called Furiosa, suddenly went rouge and tried to smuggle out Immortan Joe's "treasures"-and the two's lives intersected.

I strangely find this movie fascinating, with all its craziness. I think it's quite hilarious too (sometimes in all the wrong way, like how the War Boys keeps on saying "Witness!!!" whenever they are about to commit a suicide) especially the War Boys' rock guitarist who tirelessly plays for them when in pursuit of their enemy *LOL*. The acting's totally brilliant, i never pegged Nicholas Hoult to be able to play a crazy assed punk as convincingly as he does. It's a real rock and roll and mad mad movie, not everybody's cup of tea (or it is? It's crazily rated 8.7 in ImDb!) but for those who gets it-it's pretty darn brilliant indeed.

3. Tomorrowland

Baby Boy was the one who wanted to watch this movie (he saw the trailer in YouTube. Kids these days...) so we went as soon as it showed. I thought, it's a Disney movie so it's gotta be at least decent... It was okay (nothing mind blowing) but i believe that it's more suitable for older kids (maybe aged 9?) because there are a lot of drama in it and Baby Boy couldn't stop shifting in his seat during those scenes, which means it'd be quite boring for even younger kids.

Tomorrowland is a land of promise (in another dimension!) for the smart, the talented and the gifted. You can only enter if you're invited, even the invitation (a badge that takes you instantly to "another world" just by touching it) is super special. Cassie is a (super) smart teen who never gives up in what she believes in and one day she received a badge. The badge is like a calling to her and she felt like she had to go there and in order to do so, she needs the help of Frank (George Clooney) who was once also belonged there but when they finally got there, it's no longer the paradise that it was before.

It's quite interesting really, and there are a lot of amazing scenes like the earlier days of Tomorrowland, and when Cassie tried to keep on "watching" the invitation, those are really fascinating and entertaining-but i feel like this movie has a lot of weak scenes in it and the story never really got developed after they got there (The movie pretty much peaked during their effort to get to Tomorrowland and quickly went downhill from there). I dunno, it just has so much more potential than what it eventually become. Oh, hunny actually commented that Frank's character's teetering on the pedo territory, and i did feel a bit uncomfortable with the way Frank was watching Athena towards the end *LOL*.

Quite an entertaining watch, and while the ending is is (of course, it's Disney after all) a happy one, i left the cinema thinking there should be more to it. I'd recommend watching it at least for the few fun scenes.

4. Spy

Well, i don't mean to save the best for last or anything, it's just happened that we watched this movie last and i always go in chronological order but it really is the best movie of the month. It's EFFING HILARIOUS you guys, go and watch it NOW!!!! No seriously, i got a tummy ache from laughing too much (and it's not the kind of funny that you forget as soon as you leave the cinema either, just thinking of the scenes leaves me in stitches and i actually just had a dream of the scene in today's nap and i laughed in my dream WTF).

Susan Cooper (the brilliant Melissa McCarthy, i truly love her-my fave female comedian for sure!!!) is a sweet, matronly CIA analyst. She's damn good at what she does, but the way she looks and acts (you know, always nervous and embarrassed) makes people overlook her hard work. She mainly works as the "eye and ear" of her partner, Bradley Fine-until one day a mission went wrong which ended up in Susan having to work on the field for the very first time in her career, go deep undercover to infiltrate the arms dealer world and prevent a global crisis.

This movie made the whole cinema roared with laughter just a few seconds after the opening credit, and it never went down. One scene is more hilarious than before-the cast is brilliant, the storyline simple but confusingly hilarious, sometimes it gets so stupid that it's tears-inducingly-hilarious (in all the right way). Melissa McCarthy is hilarious (i know i use that word way too much already, but it's the best word to describe this movie), even Jason Statham's hilarious (he's making fun of his own usual roles here *you know, the macho hero* brilliantly as well)-and Rose Byrne... OMG, i didn't know whether to slap or hug her *LOL*.

I know that maybe my sense of humor's not the same as everybody else, but i don't really have the same wavelength as hunny and he also found it equally hilarious SO i believe that at least most of you would find it amusing as well. I personally LOVE it and recommending it to everybody who can do with a little laugh!

That's all for May! We went to watch Insidious Chapter 3 earlier today and it's surprisingly GOOD (i'm not a fan of the second movie although i loved the first one). I'll talk more about it in next month's review (which might be delayed since i will be overseas until the 8th) but in the mean time, i have a message for all horror movies die hard fans : go watch it!
